Confessions of a Book Geek is a finalist in the Blog Awards Ireland… and I’m heading to Dublin for the awards night!
6 Ways to Make Reading Fun Again
Even the biggest Book Geeks experience book burn-out.
Maybe it’s because you’re suffering a book hangover from the last amazing novel you read, or maybe life has just gotten busy and your favourite hobby has taken a bit of a back seat. Sometimes Book Bloggers suffer from burn-out more than most – after all if we aren’t reading a book, or talking about books, we’re reviewing books, and blogging about them!
Whatever the reason, we all go through it, so here are some tips to see if you can get your reading mojo back!
Have You Found Your Ratings Twin?
Whether you’re a book blogger, or regular book enthusiast, it’s nice to find someone who shares your taste in books.
While many of us in the community have bookish friendships, occasionally, this relationship goes a step further, and you may find your very own Ratings Twin
Blog Awards Ireland – The Longlist!
Confessions of a Book Geek has made the longlist for Blog Awards Ireland in the Books and Literature category!
13 Problems With 13 Reasons Why
I haven’t read 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, but I have heard a lot about it through the BookTube and Book Blogging community, which is why when Netflix announced they were making a TV show adaptation – I got excited.
Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations.
If I Could Make My Dream Book Nook…
How often have we, as Book Geeks, perused Pinterest getting lost for hours having a good nosy at Book Nooks, Libraries, and Reading Rooms?
How often do we eagerly snap up Buzzfeed articles with titles like, “20 Beautiful Reading Spaces”? How often do we dream of winning the lottery and building a personal library that Belle would be proud of? (Beauty and the Beast reference, people!).
If you’re anything like me, I’d say all of the above occur pretty often. In a burst of random creativity (and at an ungodly hour in the morning), I decided it was finally time to make my dream a (virtual) reality. **Drum roll, please!**
Summer Holiday Ideas & Recs for Book Lovers
It’s getting to that groggy mid-point of the year, where I’m really looking forward to getting my upcoming exams finished so I can spend more time reading and blogging, but similarly I’m fondly day-dreaming of warm sandy beaches and cocktails by the pool…
With summer on the way, some of you may have your holiday plans sorted, but for those who don’t, here are some things I’d like to read/do, that can maybe be your inspiration too!
Book Bloggers You Should Be Following
Once upon a time, I created a series of posts called Sharing the Bloggy Love, where I talked about my favourite book blogs. As a blogger, I follow A LOT of blogs, so each one of these posts only featured a handful at a time, in alphabetical order. From memory, I barely made it halfway through the alphabet.
I’ve been blogging for three years now, and in that time we’ve lost, and gained, some great Book Blogs, so I’ve decided to compile a list of my ultimates – the ones you should really be following.
International Women’s Day Book Recs!
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #BeBoldForChange – to help women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenge conscious and unconscious bias; call for gender-balanced leadership; value women and men’s contributions equally; and create inclusive flexible cultures.
Here are my top fiction and non-fiction feminist picks, as well as some of my favourite feminist YouTube videos.
The Books that Built the Blogger with Rachel from Confessions of a Book Geek!
? ? ? This week on The Books that Built the Blogger, I have the fantastic Rachel from Confessions of a Book Geek. I had been following Rachel for a while before we realised that we both live in the same town in Northern Ireland! She is a font of all YA knowledge and I…
Reviewing My 2016 Resolutions (and NEW bookshelves!)
Even though I rarely check in on them to see how I’m getting on, for some reason I still feel it’s necessary every year to sit down and write some bookish and bloggish resolutions. Occasionally, I’ll even do a couple for “real life” as well. Visualise it, write it, achieve it, and all that jazz! Without further ado, let’s review last year’s resolutions to see how epically I managed to fail in 2016!
Running Away From Reading Challenges!
There’s the super popular PopSugar Reading Challenge, and the equally infamous Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge, then of course there is the Goodreads Challenge, as well as the vast number this community comes up with themselves, and this year I’m putting my foot down.
I’m saying “no” to reading challenges.
How Much Do You Spend On Books? 2017 Edition
This is a bit of an annual tradition on Confessions of a Book Geek. I prefer physical books to eBooks, and I prefer owning books as opposed to borrowing them from the library. This has resulted in a substantial TBR pile (based on my current rate of reading, it would take around 5 years to get through the books I currently own… eek!), and while I’m not a believer of Book Buying Bans, I think it’s a great idea to be mindful of what I’m spending my money on. So let’s see how much I spent in 2016…
Crazy and Best Search Terms 2016
Last year, I brought you the Crazy and Best Search Terms of 2015 and I’ve decided there are some posts I like redoing as a bit of an annual review, so today we have the Crazy and Best Search Terms of 2016!
My Second #OTSPSecretSister Experience
I love taking part in this project, and encourage all of you to do it at least once!
OTSPSecretSister is the fabulous invention of Brittany @ Book Addict’s Guide, Alyssa @ Books Take You Places and Amy @ Tripping Over Books. The project is a “cheer club” – you are paired with a “Secret Sister” and send them letters, cards and gifts over the course of 6 months, before revealing to them who you are. While you’re doing this, you have your own Secret Sister who’s looking out for, and sending cheer, to you.
This Or That Tag!
The lovely girls over at Closet Readers tagged me in the This or That Tag, created by Ayunda from Tea and Paperbacks.
