The lovely girls over at Closet Readers tagged me in the This or That Tag, created by Ayunda from Tea and Paperbacks.
Reading on the couch (sofa) or in the bed?
Bed. It wins every time. I think I like reading on the sofa too, but it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to test that theory. I can’t read if the TV is on in the background, and there’s usually someone watching TV. Between blogging, reading, and other life-happenings, I spend a lot of time in my bedroom.
Male main character or Female main character?
I don’t think I have a preference. Typically, I can relate to a female more, but I love reading a male POV (even though, in romance at least, most of them are written by women). The gender of the main character doesn’t bother me. Do you have any male character POV novels you’d recommend to me? Or any books written by a man? As I don’t seem to read many of those either…
Sweet Snacks Or Salty Snacks?
Sweet usually. But I do love the sweet and salty popcorn mix. I’m on a permanent health-kick, so I try to avoid too many snacks, and try to eat healthier options where I can. Sigh.
Trilogies Or Quartets?
Hmmm. I used to read a LOT of trilogies, but now I either prefer a standalone or long series (4-6+). Trilogies fall too hard into the formula of book 1 setup, book 2 action, book 3 resolution, whereas longer series can really go into character and plot detail. So I guess for this it’s quartets.
First Person POV Or Third Person POV?
I can really do either, but I think more of my favourite books are third person. I’ve even enjoyed second (You by Caroline Kepnes). I’m not fussy as long as the writing and story are good.
Reading At Night Or In The Morning?
Night. I’m a night-owl. I can barely roll out of bed in the mornings let alone get up earlier to read!
Libraries Or Bookstores?
Bookstores. I want to say libraries, but I never use mine (even though I keep threatening to!). I find amazing deals and buy books new, second hand in some cases, or from charity shops. I like some retail therapy.
Books That Make You Laugh Or Books That Make You Cry?
Hmm. I prefer books that can make me genuinely laugh, but very few do! I rarely full-on sob either, but I would tear up more easily than laugh-out-loud. I like both, OK? I like books that make me feel.
Black Book Covers Or White Book Covers?
Black. White gets dirty far too easily. I don’t like white in general. Black is good.
Character Driven Or Plot Driven Stories?
I tend to like a good mix of both. I used to think I preferred plot driven, but then I read Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, which was a very character driven story, and I loved it. I think it depends on the quality of the writing, and whether the story being told suits character or plot driven devices. If it doesn’t fit, it can be jarring to read.
