I thought this was going to be a tricky topic for me, and it was, I’ve edited this so many times!! OK, so I know there are a ton of things I like and dislike on covers but I haven’t consciously sat down and thought about it much before, I decided to actually think about it today so I could organise my thoughts and create a post that makes sense… I’m not sure I’ve achieved that! I wanted to do a rant-style post on this a while ago and saved it all up for today… and I’ve basically discovered that in most cases there can be exceptions to my own cover rules. Brace yourself.
I don’t get a “summer” anymore. Of course, I get the season of Summer, if you can call it that here in Ireland, but I don’t get a full-on summer break because I’m an adult now with a full-time job *boo, hiss* so I don’t expect to be able to do any more reading than normal *sigh*.
For this week’s TTT, I’ve made a TBR list of books due out over the summer that I’d like to read. It’s pretty ambitious, but I’d like to get to these at some point.
Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand… Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

SYNC give away two complete audio-book downloads (a current YA title paired thematically with a Classic) every week in summer for 13 weeks, starting on May 15th. I’ve never “read” an audio-book before, but since joining the book blogging community I’ve heard so many bloggers say great things about audio-books and decided I would try them. What better way than by trying them for 13 weeks for free??

When I glanced through my Goodreads shelves, I realised that any books I felt “meh” about from the start, never went on to become amazing, or even just good reads. If they were “meh” at the start they were pretty “meh” at the end too. Putting a book down, or marking it as a Do Not Read, Do Not Resuscitate, Back-Away-From-This-Book is really hard for me, so when I do finally put a book down I’m pretty sure that I never want to see it again.
So, this week I bring you the Top Ten Books I’ve Put Down and You Can Tell Me Why I Should Pick Them Back Up!
She was undoubtedly a shade, but I didn’t know her… Eric Welborn isn’t completely human, but he isn’t the only shade in the small Midwest town of Hayworth. With one year left before his eighteenth birthday, Eric is destined to fight a long-raging war for his kind. But then she happens. In the middle of the night, Eric meets a nameless shade, and she’s powerful—too powerful—and his beliefs are altered. The Dark has lied to him, and he’s determined to figure out exactly what lies were told, even if the secrets protect his survival…

I’m obsessed with getting a good deal – the whole “extreme couponing” thing hasn’t really taken off here in the UK, but if it had you could guarantee that I’d be all over it. I’m signed up to a few cash-back sites and check for deals and coupon codes for my favourite websites pretty regularly, so thought I’d share them with you here.
I am one of those awful people who most definitely judge a book by its cover. I think we all do on some level, don’t we? The cover is our first insight into the book and is usually the number one thing that will make me want to pick it up and find out more about it. Never underestimate the power of an intriguing/beautiful/quirky cover!
If I hadn’t fallen asleep. If I hadn’t gotten behind the wheel. If I hadn’t made a mistake.
For Monroe Blackwell, one small mistake has torn her family apart leaving her empty and broken. There’s a hole in her heart that nothing can fill. That no one can fill. And a summer in Louisiana with her grandma isn’t going to change that…
Nathan Everets knows heartache firsthand when a car accident leaves his best friend in a coma. And it’s all his fault. He should be the one lying in the hospital. The one who will never play guitar again. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and a court-appointed job at the Blackwell B&B isn’t going to change that…

Avie has the normal life of a privileged teen growing up in L.A., at least as normal as any girl’s life is these days. After a synthetic hormone in beef killed 50 million American women ten years ago, only young girls, old women, men, and boys are left to pick up the pieces. Fathers still fear for their daughters’ safety, and the Paternalist Movement, begun to “protect” young women, is taking over the choices they make. This is a story about fighting for the most important things in life—freedom and love.

Recently, I read a post on Book.Blog.Bake that served to be a massive wake-up-call for me, and made me realise just how naive I, and I’m sure many others, can be…
Callum is a Nought – an inferior white citizen in a society controlled by the black Crosses. Sephy is a Cross – and the daughter of one of the most powerful, ruthless men in the country. In their hostile, violent world, Noughts and Crosses simply don’t mix. But when Sephy and Callum’s childhood friendship grows into passionate love, they’re determined to find a way to be together.

Figuratively speaking, of course. I don’t advocate violence but I’m sure others have felt this way too – you can read a book and love it, but there will always be those annoying or horrible characters that we all love to hate, and who really need a good ole’ fashioned slap round the back of the head, you just itch to reach in between the pages and deliver them a head-smack.
This is a rant post. I know I have to accept some of the responsibility, but I’m a little quite annoyed, so I’m putting a warning out there before you read on, that this Book Geek ain’t happy.
