Top Ten Favourite Kick-Ass Heroines

1. Celaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass: This girl has to be given the #1 spot. She’s a feared Assassin, who’s had to deal with a lot in her life. She’s fearless, strong, independent, sassy. All Hail, Celaena! (I see Natalie Dormer when I think of her).

2. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games: This lady started a revolution, people! She has better survival instincts than Bear Grylls on a good day, and she’s got major bow and arrow skillz.

3. Hermione Granger from Harry Potter: She uses her book-smarts to outwit the bad guys, she punched Malfoy in the face, she’s fiercely loyal, and she keeps her cool in a crisis.

4. Tris Prior from Divergent: Tris was fierce – the Dauntless initiation process was brutal, she had to face so many of her fears, and she made the ultimate sacrifice for those she loved.

5. Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice: OK, so I’ve never managed to make it the whole way through the book (but I want to!), but I’ve watched the BBC TV adaptation (which was brilliant) and I really resonated with the feminist character of Elizabeth.

Heroines from TV Shows

1. Prue, Piper and Phoebe from Charmed: I was obsessed with this show when I was younger, and even though Prue didn’t last that long, the original three were always my favourite.

2. Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I don’t think it’s possible to create a top kick-ass heroines list and not include one of the original bad-ass females, Buffy herself!

3. Xena from Xena Warrior Princess: I don’t know if I’d still enjoy this show or not, it’s been so long since I’ve seen it, but I loved watching Xena kick-ass when I was a kid!

4. Sarah Manning (& Co.) from Orphan Black: I completely fell in love with this show last year, and I can’t wait to see more of it. Tatiana Maslany is such a freaking good actress, I kept forgetting it was her playing the roles of all the clones.

5. Red from Orange is the New Black: Red is one of my favourite characters in this show, she’s a woman to be reckoned with, and Queen of the pack.
