Top Ten Nine Books I Own I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read Yet
I’ve done the Top Ten Classics You Won’t Believe I Haven’t Read Yet and a few other topics that feel similar to this week’s topic, so I’m going to do the Top Ten books I already own that everyone else seems to have read except me, and you can tell me which one/s I should read first!
1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – It feels like everyone has read this series. It gets some mixed reviews, but I love those covers, and the premise sounds interesting, so I’m still excited to get to it.
2. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare – I really liked the Mortal Instruments series, and it seems as though everyone prefers this one, so I’ve no idea why I’m not on this already. I confess – I started it but got bored. I’d just finished City of Heavenly Fire and went straight into it. I think it was too much Shadowhunter in one dose.
3. A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin – I’m in a vicious cycle with this one. I won’t watch the TV Show everyone loves because I haven’t read the books yet. But the books are ginormous so I keep putting off reading them. Even though I own all 7 of them… *ahem* moving on…
4. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey – I got this pretty recently, so I don’t think it’s too bad that I haven’t read this yet, but the hype is putting me off. I don’t want to read it until the hype dies down a little because I don’t think it’ll meet my sky-high expectations.
5. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi – Another instance where I own the whole trilogy (got a great deal on this one!), and I hear nothing but great things about this series, but I just haven’t picked them up yet!
6. The Cuckoo’s Calling by JK Rowling – I don’t even bother saying Robert Galbraith, secret’s out of the bag by now! I got halfway through this one, and I was enjoying it, but I got distracted and didn’t pick it up again. I got it when it first came out, and picked up book #2 The Silkworm this week. I should probably get on to this soon!
7. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness – I still haven’t read any Ness yet, but I own 4 of his books, so I’m nearly there! Everyone talks about this series, everyone loves it. I own it. Now all I have to do it read it!
8. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty – Moriarty seems to have gained a lot of popularity since I picked this book up (…almost a year ago…), and everyone seems to really enjoy this read. I need to get to this one, and her other release, The Husband’s Secret.
9. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness – As far as I know, this is an Adult Fantasy series. I got the first two books on a great deal just before the third book’s release date. I haven’t picked up the third book yet, but then I haven’t read the first two either.

I definitely recommend Shatter Me. I loved it but still haven’t finished the series. SO MUCH COMMITMENT. We must buddy read a Discovery of Witches!! Did you hear today they announced the trilogy will be a bbc mini series?

Ohhh – no I hadn’t heard that, but the BBC adaptations ALWAYS impress me, never seen a bad one! Interesting that you loved Shatter Me, I wasn’t sure if it would be a “you” book… I should catch up and then we should buddy read the rest. I think Stef has Discovery of Witches on her TBR too – possible joint read? R x

I really need to read The Fifth Wave too especially now that the second book is out. I really liked Shatter Me. The writing style is very different but it worked for me. The follow-up novella Destroy Me was also great.

There’s a third one due isn’t there? I might wait until they’re all out… After starting Throne of Glass before they’re all out – I’m half excited to be enjoying the buzz and anticipation, and half depressed I didn’t wait until they’re all out because I’m dying on the inside! I might need to get to Shatter Me sooner rather than later then! PS – where have you been!? Doing fun things I hope! 😀 R x

Probably, there usually is. I’m hearing so many good things about Throne of Glass. I’ll probably wait until the series is completed though so I can read them back to back. And yes, I’m back! I had a major life set back last fall but I’m back on my feet and reading and writing again. Feels good. Feels like I’m me again and I missed all my wp friends and you again is awesome!

I have the clockwork angel but still am yet to read it too. I went with dark romance book that I want to read, since this is a newly discovered genre for me.

I wouldn’t worry, I’ve only read three of the books, and I did adore Discovery Of Witches, I strongly recommend it, although it took me a couple of attempts to read it. I also enjoyed Cuckoo’s Calling, but the story almost lost me halfway through because I felt like there was lots of writing with nothing happening, but it really picks up at the end and I enjoyed it so if you want a good mystery that is it. As for the rest, who knows, I’ll probably read them at some point.
Great list though, there are lots of books that I’m sure everyone’s been going on about, especially Gam of Thrones, but the TV series is just as good and they are such long books.

Discovery of Witches seems chunky, both in page numbers and content! Lol That’s what happened to me with Cuckoo’s Calling – I got halfway through, and while I was enjoying it, I was easily distracted from it. Throne of Glass was really my intro to Fantasy, so I’m planning to read more this year, including the infamous Game of Thrones! R x

I’m trying to figure out a way to encourage you to read The 5th Wave and The Knife of Never Letting Go without putting either series on a pedestal and thus making you a little apprehensive to read them. I will say I enjoyed both, but the Chaos Walking trilogy surprised me with its depth and uniqueness.

Many of these are sitting unread on my shelves as well! I am scared to start the Game of Thrones books because I’ve seen the show, and I know that everyone dies. It’s so hard to get attached when you know that’s coming, and it’s a huge commitment! I did read The Cuckoo’s Calling in December, though, and it was worth the effort. A bit heavy on detail and occasionally repetitive, but still a great book overall!

So many of these would be on my list as well! 😀 I read the first book of the Infernal Devices series, but the characters were way too similar to the ones in TMI in my opinion and I prefer the modern day setting to the Victorian one, so I never bothered to pick up the rest of the series. I started Shatter Me, but never really got into it, so I abandoned it. I picked up The Cuckoo’s Calling because a friend gave me The Silkworm for my birthday (she didn’t know it was a sequel) and I like to read series in order. I got excited when I realized it was by JK Rowling and I thought it was pleasant to read, but I never got hooked and I stopped reading about a 100 pages in. Maybe I’ll finish it someday, but right now I have a lot more fascinating books to read. I own Under the Never Sky, but I was never actually in the mood to read it and I don’t trust the 5th Wave hype either.

That’s interesting, Vlora, because so many prefer the historical setting! I think because I picked it up right after City of Heavenly Fire it was too soon, I’ll get round to it again! R x

The Song of Ice and Fire (aka Game of Thrones) books are really quick reads, even though they look long. Not sure how you got your hands on all 7 though, since only 5 are out =P

Ah! Newbie mistake – had to go look this one up – 5 books are out but two of them are split into two actual books, there’s 7 in the set I bought so I guessed there were 7 of them. It definitely feels as if they’ll be long reads! I’ll get the nerve up to read them someday! Lol R x
