Synopsis: Sydney is living in an idyllic bubble – she’s a dedicated student with a steady job on the side. She lives with her best friend, has a great boyfriend, and the music coming from the balcony opposite hers is fast becoming the soundtrack to her life.
But when Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, the bubble bursts. The mysterious and attractive man behind the music, Ridge, gives Sydney hope that she can move on and they begin to write songs together. But moving on is harder than she expects, Sydney can only hope…maybe someday.
The ReRead Challenge
So, this year I’m taking part in the ReRead Challenge. I’m hoping to reread a minimum of 12 books in 2015, and this was January’s pick. I didn’t even make it a year before wanting to read this one again. I’ll admit, I was kind of petrified. I LOVED this book SO MUCH the first time round, what if it just didn’t read the same on the second go??
When I First Read & What I Remember:
I obviously loved this book – I push it on everyone and know at least three people who have read it because I told them to.. forced them to.. bought it for them. I thought the story was really unique and loved the “proper” use of text messages (I hate when books do texting wrong). When I first read this book, the start of it grabbed me, made me grin and I was so excited to have found a book I connected with. However, the pace slowed down and it was one of the reasons my original review was 4.5/5 and not 5/5. I fell pretty hard for all of the characters in this story and completely adored the mixed media element and that soundtrack!
Why I Wanted To ReRead and How I Felt After ReReading:
First of all, let’s get the important bit out of the way – I’m so relieved to say that I still love this book! The second time around, I was obviously familiar with the story, so there were some elements of it that didn’t quite grab me in the same way. But that was OK, because it was nice reading it knowing what was going to happen, so I could focus more on other elements of the book. What struck me as strange though, is that during my first read it was the start of the book that grabbed me, and then the rest of it slowed down. During my second read this flipped. I found the first half to be slower, and the nitty gritty further into the story to be the attention grabbing parts I couldn’t wait to get to! During the reread I also only listened to my favourite songs from the soundtrack rather than all of them – time saving reading!! 😀
ReRead Rating and Would I ReRead It Again:
Rating
4.5/5
Included above is a fan-made video for Maybe Someday, which is fantastic!

I’m really glad to know you loved it the second time around! I am not a re-reader, as you know, but I intend to re-read all CoHo books some day. My fear has always been that I won’t enjoy them as much the second time.
It’s interesting that you say that about it being slow. I remember the beginning of it being super slow, and it even took me two times trying to read it before I really got into it. Once I got through the beginning, I couldn’t put it down.

But, but, do you not even reread your absolute favourites?? It’s so comforting! It was a big fear I had with CoHo! But I’m glad I overcame it! R x

I read Hopeless and Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover and really loved them, but haven’t read anything else. I really should read this, because clearly it is fantastic! Yay for re-reading! I want to re-read a lot this year, too.

I’ve read Ugly Love and Never Never and loved them both too and want to get to the rest of her back catalogue! I plan to buy myself a couple of Hoover books for my Birthday this month as a treat because they aren’t the cheapest! I love her originality, incorporating a soundtrack is just genius! R x

I listened to this on audiobook and like your first read, I found the later part of the book to be a bit slow. Don’t get me wrong I adored it but the pacing wasn’t perfect. Interesting how your thoughts changed on a reread. I think I’d like to read it in book format sometime, your note on the texts has made me curious!

Was the audio book good?? I hesitate with audio books SO much and think the narrator makes ALL the difference! I was all for giving MS 5/5 the first time I read it until I got to around the halfway mark and the pace hit a speed bump, so I ended up giving it 4.5/5, but the second time around, the second half pulled me in much more. And the text format in the book is done well, and the language is very good – people often text slightly differently than they talk, and I think it comes across really well. That and the US cover is delicious! R x

I always get worried rereading…like what if I don’t love it as much the send time round?! So I’m glad you found it equally enjoyable. xD When I reread the Divergent series I LOVED Insurgent the best. But the second time round it was my least favourite book. 0.0 Weird, eh?!
I do want to try this one, or at least something by Colleen Hover someday!

I really felt that way about CoHo, because I used to reread a lot as a kid, but haven’t done it a lot in recent years, so was worried my opinions would be completely different, but breathed a sigh of relief when they weren’t! You HAVE to try CoHo!!! 😀 R x
