I don’t usually do overly personal/life-related posts on this blog unless they somehow fit in with a bookish theme, but I’ve decided to change it up in 2015 and try to incorporate a few more personal posts and discussions along with my bookish addiction. I’m not tying myself down to a scheduled update, because honestly? Sometimes my life can be very dull and boring! But I’ll throw one in from time-to-time when there’s something on my mind.
This week, I’ve been a little overwhelmed with getting back into a work routine. I took two weeks off over the Holiday period, and I’m completely drained after being back at work for just one week! It’s amazing how just the right amount of time off can re-energise you, but too much can make you feel like a lazy slob, or is that just me? Now that I’m back I’m hoping I settle into a routine again pretty quickly, because currently, I’m like this:
In other news, I’m being the world’s best procrastinator – I’m 3 books ahead of my Goodreads schedule for this year already even though I have an exam on the 20th of January (the last one on my current course!) and I haven’t really managed to open a book for it yet. I’m promising myself I’ll do it this weekend with The Tudors on in the background. I love revising with something on in the background, but it can only be something I’ve already watched or I get distracted and dragged into the plot of the show when I should be reading about Health and Safety Law.
Yeah, I know, I told you my life was exciting…
How has your first week of the new year been? Do you have any top revision tips for a crammer like myself? Let me know in the comments!
This makes me happy – you doing some more personal posts. I find you to be fascinating and love when you post stuff like this. 🙂
I FEEL YOU. This was the.longest.week.ever. According to the massive headache I’m sporting right this minute. SO happy it’s Friday. I need sleep.
I felt refreshed coming in on Monday, but that quickly deteriorated with our sucky snowy weather. Of course it couldn’t snow when I was home safe and sound for 2 weeks. Noooo, it waits until I have to drive to work in this shit. That has made the past 3 mornings very delightful.
I’m going to have some wine tonight and read Never Never and be thankful it’s the weekend. 😉
Lol, yes, I had to throw that in there. Love ya!! xo

Fascinating?? That’s both overly complimentary and probably entirely inaccurate, but I’ll take it! Good to know there are those out there who appreciate the personal touch, because I’m really hoping to bring it (!) to the blog this year.
I’ve a story for you, I’m thinking of turning it into a blog post actually – I was speaking with someone today in the office who had asked to borrow a pen, and I went digging in my fabulous purple pencil case that has a bow on it. They commented that it was an unusual choice for me (I work in engineering and wear steel toe boots every day, it can be hard to shake the image of being a tomboy, but I’m pretty sure eyeliner, sparkly nails and red lipgloss helps…) and I said something like, “Yea, that’s me, steel toe boots and bows” and I thought hold up, is that not a CLASS blog name? Sure, books aren’t mentioned in the title, but seriously, Steel Toe Boots and Bows?!
I don’t know what to do this weekend. I’ve threatened to revise all week, so I need to do that, while avoiding the Friday 2pm “I NEED to go out” sudden on-set of cravings for alcohol and a dance floor. Le sigh.
Urgh. Your comment and my reply was going swimmingly until that last sentence! That sounds DELICIOUS! I’m going to go wipe my tears in the bathroom so no one can see me. Girls in steel toe boots don’t cry 😉 R xxx

LOL, I love that as a blog name!! There’s nothing wrong with being a little bit of both. 😉
I get the itch to go out about once or twice a year when we can get a sitter. My kind of going out now is just dinner at my favorite restaurant, which we are doing tonight. Something to look forward to all day. And I love their wine…which I’m sure isn’t a surprise. 😉
Haha…I had to mention it. You know it’s a really short book – it would be totally worth purchasing and reading this weekend. So we could discuss it. I am already fully prepared for a horrible cliffhanger, so I won’t be upset about it at the end. When I have fair warning, it’s not too bad. Normally I won’t even read a book in a series unless the next books are available, but it’s CoHo, so…

I love it as a blog name too. I don’t know if I should switch it for my 1 year anniversary or if I should make it a feature just and keep my name as it’s me now…
I’m still doing the young, free and single thing, so I go out a reasonable amount, which is both good and bad depending on which day of the week you ask me. If I have my sentimental, cuddly and soppy head on then I’m ready to finally meet someone half decent (and it’s not for a lack of trying!), and sit in doing cute couple-y things. If I have my independent female, single-loving head on then clear the dance floor and get the shots in!
Sometimes dinner at a nice restaurant is lovely, and yes, wine is a must!
I didn’t know it was 140 pages. I don’t know how I feel about this. How much will the physical book cost? I might just keep this one eBook only and treat it like a novella in my head as opposed to a “real” book… We could live-tweet the read together!! And then turn the live tweets into a review???
I’m the same with series – but I’m throwing all caution to the wind lately and getting down with my bad (not-all-books-are-released-in-that-series-yet-dear-god-the-pressure) self. R x

Well, I think you should treat it like a novella, buy the eBook and read it with me!!! We’ll tweet and review it together. YES!

Haha. My life is pretty boring all the time too. And usually I don’t mind that. 🙂
I really didn’t take much time off around the holidays, and even still I’m struggling a bit getting back into my work routine, too. But I think it won’t take too long. Hopefully.

I think after a week or two it settles down again, this week just felt so, so looooong. I quite like my boring little bubble most of the time! Lol R x

I know How you feel! I took 2 weeks off to go to Lake Tahoe during the holiday break. I go back to work and, I Don’t Wanna was on my mind the entire time lol! I was completely and totally drained of any energy I gained back after my first week of work.
Book wise that’s awesome your doing so good! And yay for more personal post! I love reading personal posts from bloggers 🙂

HAHA! Yup, that and even though I’d just had a fortnight off, the final weekend before starting back I had the same Sunday blues I get most weekends!
Personal posts seem to be for the win! This is still very much a book blog, but I thought I’d start throwing in other bits and pieces when I feel I’ve something to share. Add a little more personality to the blog. I’ve been doing this for 9/10 months now and I think it takes a while to settle into your own rhythm 🙂 R x

I’m with Brandie on this one. 🙂 I really like getting to know people more just because I’m infinitely curious (okay, nosy). And to be honest, I like when a blogger reveals part of herself, because I feel like there’s an interesting person behind the book review, you know?
Anyway, good luck on your exam!

Haha me too – but as much as I love other people doing personal posts, I never know if what I’m thinking/writing is all that interesting… lol Thanks, Joy! Looking forward to getting it over me as I can read and blog to my heart’s content for a little while 😀 R x

I’m with you on the personal posts – I struggle to post a Five on Fridays each week about my personal life, because my life is pretty boring each week! I only post when I feel like there’s something worth sharing.
I worked 2.5 days the week of Christmas and 2 days the week of New Year’s, so working for a full week after all those long weekends was NOT fun. It’s so hard to be productive again!

Thanks, Maria. I’m still settling in and it’s the start of week two! I have a couple of days off for study leave this week, and an exam next week, I’m not sure if all that will help or hinder my routine! Lol R x

I felt the same this past week. Every morning I was dragging myself out of bed, and each evening changed into PJs and was off to bed!

Not just you! Now that I’m back in a regular routine, I feel exhausted! I hate having to bounce back 😛 That’s great that you are ahead in your Goodreads goal, that will definitely come in handy when you do start studying 😉

I was hoping this morning I’d suddenly be back to normal, but not quite yet! I’m supposed to be stopping everything and just studying this week, so I’m hoping I can avoid the temptation of the books!! At least from the challenge point of view there’s no pressure, but I love to procrastinate! R x

Ugh, I feel you on the routine thing – I just had three weeks off of school for winter break and now I can’t tell which way is up, let alone do trig homework! Also, I just got b over eing sick and I felt absolutely terrible all weekend, so now I just kind of want to collapse into bed and sleep for a week, not get up early and go to school 😉
By the way, I don’t think personal posts are boring at all – especially from the POV of a new reader (ahem!). It’s always lovely to get a glimpse into a blogger’s life – no matter how “boring” you may find it. 😉 It’s so wonderful to meet you!

It’s so hard to get back into the grind, right?? I have an exam next week and I’m just struggling to get my head down for it. Aw, I hope you’re feeling better, that’s even worse! I’d probably hide under my duvet for a while and refuse to face the world! Lol
Haha – thanks! I guess it may seem boring to me, but to others it’s easier to relate too. Attempting to throw more personality into the blog this year! 😀 R x
