I can’t be the only one who thinks 2018 is going by super quickly? Every time I see a wrap-up post or vlog it seems like that’s all we ever say, but it’s definitely true, time is going by so fast! I haven’t posted a wrap-up since October 2017 (!) so I’ll try and cover as much as I can in this one.

Christmas feels like forever ago now, and I really enjoyed some well deserved time off before starting 2018 motivated and raring to go, and so far it’s going really well. I turned 28 in February and had a great time with friends and family, which included receiving some lovely bookish gifts, and realising that at 28 I definitely can no longer party like a rock star. PJs, movies, and cups of tea have become my happy place.

Work has been so, so busy and it’s looking like it’s going to be that way from now on, so any form of blogging schedule has definitely gone out the window, but I’m going to try and get some reviews and posts up in advance each month, so that there’s still content on here.

The UK has been hit with a lot more snow than we usually receive, so it’s the perfect time to stay cosy indoors and write a lot of posts. I’m not a big fan of snow, but I spotted this the other day and it really tickled me:

The Books

• Fire and Fury: Potentially one of the most controversial books of the decade. I had to get this, I’m grossly fascinated by the car-crash that is Trump.
• Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: Although this is aimed at younger readers, who doesn’t want to read about 100 inspirational women? Everyone is talking about this book, and it’s become so popular that a version two has just been released.
• David and Goliath: I love a good personal development book. Jon Ronson is blurbed as saying, “when you read it, you feel like you can topple giants”. I’m up for some of that. 
• Tipping Point: My sister pointed this one out to me from a business perspective. It’s about the magic moment when ideas, trends and social behaviour cross a threshold, tip and spread like wildfire.
• Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine: I’ve heard so much about this award-winning read, which is the fastest-selling paperback debut in the last ten years with the exception of Fifty Shades of Grey and Dawn French’s A Tiny Bit Marvellous. 
• Dawn Study: I’m itching for a new Fantasy series to get into, and have managed to collect most of the Study series, so when I spotted this one for £2 I snapped it up. 
• Still Me: I ADORED Me Before You, so was very touched when my sister got me a signed hardback of Still Me for my birthday (among other fab goodies).
• The Nowhere Girls: A timely and topical novel about three misfits coming together to avenge the rape of a fellow classmate, and in the process trigger a change in the misogynist culture at their high school.
• The Poppy Factory: I’d love to find another great historical fiction read, and this one looks like it has potential. With a split timeline, the story follows Jess, an army medic in the Afghanistan war in 2012, and her grandmother Rose, the wife of a World War I soldier in 1922.

Movies and TV Shows

There have been so many things I’ve watched since October, but a couple of stand-outs are:

The Founder – An amazing movie about the true story of how McDonald’s, the fast food restaurant, came to be. You will never look at a Big Mac the same way again.

Miss Sloane – This movie was so good, and is incredibly topical right now as it focuses on gun control laws in America. Chastain is a new favourite actress for me, I’d watch her in a five minute advert.

The Age of Adaline – I really loved this sci-fi-esque movie that tells the story of Adaline Bowman, a woman who has miraculously remained 29 years old for almost eight decades.

Instead of going month by month, I’ll just wrap-up everything on the blog since November! I reviewed Big Little Lies (3.5/5*), This Song Will Save Your Life (4/5*), The Thirty List (4/5*), and Brooklyn (3.5/5*).

I wrote posts on Things Book Geeks Do When They’re Not Reading, 6 Recommended Coffee Table Books, 14 Recommendations for Non-Fiction November, and tried to convince you all to crowdfund for a blogger’s book to be published by Unbound, because the blurb sounds amazing!

I also completed the obligatory End of Year Survey and did my annual review of how much I spent on books in 2017.

My most popular post in February was yet again – What Is the Point of Preordering? (seems we’re all having pre-order problems!) and my most popular review in February was for Big Little Lies.
