The Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag!

Mid Year Book Freakout Tag

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ YET IN 2017

I REFUSE to pick one. Can’t do it. These three were all fantastic for very different reasons.

Book Review Small Great Things | Book Review The Hate U Give

Book Review Seven Steps to Happiness

2. BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017

A Court of Wings and Ruin Book Cover

It just had to be, didn’t it? The massively anticipated final book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but I still gave it 5*. Review to follow.

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

All That She Can See Book Cover

A very recent release by the fabulous Carrie Hope Fletcher. I adore this YouTuber, and really enjoyed her debut novel On the Other Side. I haven’t picked this one up yet because I’ve pre-ordered a copy for a signing Carrie is doing locally in October when she’s here touring with the Addam’s Family. It’s a regular gripe of mine that authors don’t visit here enough, so I couldn’t not go. Also, not gonna lie, I’m a wee bit gutted her and Pete didn’t work out.

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

I tend to focus more on backlist titles and reading my own shelves (unless there’s a fab offer on, of course, and then I buy ALL THE BOOKS). The only releases I’m usually aware of are my autobuy authors, so for the rest of 2017 that means I can’t wait to get my hands on Tower of Dawn (WHAT have they done to those covers?!) and Without Merit.

Kendare Blake isn’t an autobuy author for me, but I’m dying to see what happens in this series, so One Dark Throne is on there too (and I’m hoping they don’t do a gimmick and release three cover varieties like they did with the first book).

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

This one is sadly too easy to pick. I was really excited about this read, and it was super disappointing.

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE

The Hate U Give Book Cover

The Hate U Give is one of my favourite books of the year so far, so it might seem surprising that it is also my biggest surprise of the year. It’s a debut, and like 99% of the books I pick up, it might have just been an OK read. But it wasn’t, it was FABULOUS.

7. FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR
Stella Newman and Angie Thomas Authors

Hard to tell with some of these, as I’ve only read one book or their debut, but I’ll go with Stella Newman (Seven Steps to Happiness) and Angie ThomasCheck out my author interview with Stella Newman too.

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

Wing Jones Book Cover

That’s really hard to call. I haven’t really read anyone new that’s given me all the swoons. For the meantime, I’ll go with Aaron from Wing Jones. Review to follow.

9. NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

Nope Gif

I’ve read some stories I’ve really liked, but there’s no BIG (new) characters that have really stuck out for me so far this year… Still a few months to go though.

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The Easy Way Out Book Cover

I don’t think I’ve full-on cried at a book so far this year, but The Hate U Give, Small Great Things, and The Easy Way Out (review to follow) might have got me a little welled up.

11. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

seven-steps-to-happiness-book-cover

Seven Steps to Happiness has to take the crown for this one.

12. FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

I haven’t read the book for Hidden Figures yet, but it’s waiting for me on my shelves, and I have seen the movie and thought it was GREAT. I also read the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone this year, and it goes without saying the movies are pretty damn good.

13. FAVOURITE POST YOU HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

I haven’t been blogging as frequently as I would have liked this year, so there are fewer discussions and original posts to choose from. It’s probably a toss-up between Book Bloggers You Should Be Following and International Women’s Day Book Recommendations. I’m all about the community ❤ and feminism!

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR

Toss-up between these two. Carrie’s covers are ridiculously pretty (On the Other Side is on display on my bookcase), and Small Great Things is a textured hardback with no dust jacket and copper detailing.

15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

There aren’t any books I need  to read by the end of the year, but I would like to get to The Power by Naomi Alderman, The Circle by Dave Eggers, Start With Why by Simon Sinek, and Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

This tag has been doing the rounds on BookTube, so I thought us Book Bloggers could join in. I’m not tagging anyone specifically, but feel free to take part and leave me a link to your post in the comments!

Yes, it is!! It’s so good, but I’d wait to read it closer to Halloween time. It’s the perfect type of book for then. 😉

  2. Why pick one favourite book of the year so far when you can have several? This is a tag I intend to have up next week because it’s the perfect look back on the year so far. I loved Hidden Figures, I only watched it recently but it was a great film. I’ve THUG up my TBR as well since you loved so much and I finally own a copy.

  3. So glad to see The Hate U Give on your list of favorite reads this year. It was such a good novel. I still marvel that it’s a debut. I really enjoyed Hidden Figures as well. Hope you get a chance to blog more soon, miss seeing you often on my reader!
