When my first round of #OTSPSecretSister ended, I wrote a post all about my OTSPSecretSister experience, and now that another round has sadly come to an end, I thought I would do it again to encourage all of you to participate in this project at least once.
To recap, OTSPSecretSister is the fabulous invention of Brittany @ Book Addict’s Guide, Alyssa @ Books Take You Places and Amy @ Tripping Over Books. The project is a “cheer club” – you are paired with a “Secret Sister” and send them letters, cards and gifts over the course of 6 months, before revealing to them who you are. While you’re doing this, you have your own Secret Sister who’s looking out for, and sending cheer, to you.
The project started in the US only, but now there are Secret Sisters in the UK, Belgium, Canada, and Australia. Check out #OTSPSecretSister on Twitter to see what all the ladies (and guys!) get up to. I really enjoyed taking part for a second time, but I’m taking a break for this next round as I’ve other things going on, and don’t feel I can commit to it fully just now, which wouldn’t be fair to the other participants. I’ve a feeling I’m really going to miss it though, so no doubt will be back doing it again soon!
The Secret Sister I Sent To – Natalie @ Food For Bookworms
Natalie is an English graduate who started her blog, because like most of us, she didn’t have anyone “in real life” to share her addiction with. It was so much fun trying to find great gifts for Nat, because her tastes are quite different than mine (other than Harry Potter), but I managed to get things I thought she would love, with a little twist of me in them, if that makes sense? For example, I’m not a massive fan of the Classics, but I ADORE those retro Pulp! The Classics covers. Natalie loves book recommendations, and was really open to receiving books that weren’t on her wishlist, so I could match up some of my favourite books with her tastes, and now I can’t wait for her to read them, so we can share notes!
The Secret Sister Who Was Sending To Me – Chantelle @ Oh, The Stories
Chantelle is a Publishing graduate, who started blogging in 2015. (Aren’t we surrounded by talented people in this community?!). She was a fabulous Secret Sister, who managed to blend together so many of my favourite things, and sent me some very lovely letters and emails. Her book picks were SO on-point (now all I need is an extra day in the week to read them!), and I can’t wait to get stuck in to some of my most-anticipated reads of the year. One of the most personal, and unique, gifts she sent me was a “quote box” – a very cute box filled with some of her favourite hand-written quotes, so I could pick one out every now and then when I felt like it.
I would encourage everyone to take part in this project at least once (one of the hosts needs to “know” you before you can participate, so go say hello and introduce yourself!), especially all of my UK/Ireland blogging peeps, who I just KNOW would love this and make FAB sisters!
Have you taken part in OTSPSecretSister? How did you find the experience? What are your top Secret Sister tips? Share with me in the comments!
My first time doing this was last round so I’m currently in my 2nd round. I really need to remember to keep track of photos of what I sent (I always take pics of what I get) so I can do a post like this after my second round. It would be fun to look back on and hopefully show other people what this is all about.
My tip would be to really get to know your sister. Read their blog, twitter, whatever they have given you to get to know them! Don’t be afraid to ask their buddies questions. I did this a lot last round because my sister wasn’t on Twitter a lot. This way I knew I was getting some stuff she would probably enjoy, without having to wait and see if she’d answer all of the Twitter questions.

Both my secret sisters took pics of the packages I sent them, so at the end I go through my Twitter and theirs and save all the images. Super easy to do for a wrap up post! 🙂
Yes – the stalking part is so much fun! I would say to everyone taking part to please answer as many of the Twitter questions as possible! I have had the experience of having a sister who wasn’t very active and it made the “getting to know you” bit a lot trickier! R xx

Sounds like a lovely idea and how exciting that it’s a secret sister. You sent and received some lovely things.

It’s great, Amanda! Sign-ups for the next round go live in January I think, and I think I’ll take part again after my break. R xx
