Top Ten Favourite Reads With Less Than 2000 Ratings On Goodreads (2016)

It’s been AGES since I’ve done a Top Ten Tuesday post, and I really miss them! I managed to do 51/52 in 2014, and now I hardly do them at all! I went and had a nosy at today’s topic, and it inspired me to get writing, so here are my Top Ten Fave Reads that have less than 2,000 ratings on Goodreads.

1. The Double Life of Mistress Kit Kavanagh by Marina Fiorato.

Where do I begin with this book?! I received a copy from the publisher, and it was absolutely amazing! I cannot praise this book enough. I haven’t even gotten around to doing a full review on it yet, but here’s a synopsis of my thoughts: historical, romance with a twist, based-on-true-story, kickass female, feminism, amazing!

2. The Proposal by Tasmina Perry.

I’m so behind on writing book reviews, it’s ridiculous. In fact, I’m still finishing off reviews from 2015, and this is one of them. I picked this up on a whim when doing my weekly food shop, and it was an excellent decision. Dual point-of-view, and dual timeline, historical and contemporary, romance, debutantes, and all round wonderfulness.

3. Boys Like You by Juliana Stone.

I completely and totally fell head over heels with this book when I first started blogging. I still intend to get my hands on a physical copy with that delicious cover, as I currently have an e-ARC, and you know my feelings on eBooks… Check out my review.

4. Pretty Things by Sarra Manning.

When I read this, I remember thinking it was a little risqué compared to what I normally read as a teen, and I remember thinking it was “real”, and how exciting it was that I wasn’t being talked down to as a teen, but instead reading a book about sexuality! This was also one of the first books I read with LGBT characters. I’m AMAZED it hasn’t gotten more attention.

5. The Before Now and After Then by Peter Monn.

6. The Second Love of My Life by Victoria Walters.

This was a super emotional and well-written contemporary romance that deals with loss, grief and new beginnings. Check out my review, and interview with the author.

7. I Call Myself A Feminist by various.

I read Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay last year, which was basically my introduction to feminist texts, and since then I’ve actively tried to intersperse feminist novels and non-fiction throughout my reading. This book intrigued me because it’s a collection of essays that represent the views of “normal” people, not just people in power or scholars. It makes for a good introduction to feminism, and while practising feminists aren’t likely to learn anything earth-shattering from reading it, being able to read about the opinions and experiences of people “other” than yourself, is always beneficial.

8. The Good Psychopath’s Guide to Success by Dr. Kevin Dutton and Andy McNab.

I enjoy some non-fiction, and personal development books, from time-to-time. Obviously the title of this one caught my eye, and I have to say, its message has stuck with me, and it would merit a reread. If you need to be more assertive, get in control, and prioritise your needs, you need to read this book. Check out my review.

9. A Girl Called Fearless by Catherine Linka.

I really enjoyed this dystopian duology, and always felt that it should be given more recognition and be read by many! Check out my review of the first book in the duo. 10. How (Not) To Fall In Love by Lisa Brown Roberts.

This was an unexpectedly good YA contemporary romance, that I stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish, and I love my sleep. If that isn’t testament to a great read, I don’t know what is! Check out my review.
