Top Ten Favourite Reads With Less Than 2000 Ratings On Goodreads (2016)
It’s been AGES since I’ve done a Top Ten Tuesday post, and I really miss them! I managed to do 51/52 in 2014, and now I hardly do them at all! I went and had a nosy at today’s topic, and it inspired me to get writing, so here are my Top Ten Fave Reads that have less than 2,000 ratings on Goodreads.
1. The Double Life of Mistress Kit Kavanagh by Marina Fiorato.
Published: Feb 2016 #Ratings: 96 Average Rating: 4.03 My Rating: 5/5
Where do I begin with this book?! I received a copy from the publisher, and it was absolutely amazing! I cannot praise this book enough. I haven’t even gotten around to doing a full review on it yet, but here’s a synopsis of my thoughts: historical, romance with a twist, based-on-true-story, kickass female, feminism, amazing!
2. The Proposal by Tasmina Perry.
Published: January 2014 #Ratings: 702 Average Rating: 3.88 My Rating: 5/5
I’m so behind on writing book reviews, it’s ridiculous. In fact, I’m still finishing off reviews from 2015, and this is one of them. I picked this up on a whim when doing my weekly food shop, and it was an excellent decision. Dual point-of-view, and dual timeline, historical and contemporary, romance, debutantes, and all round wonderfulness.
3. Boys Like You by Juliana Stone.
Published: August 2014 #Ratings: 1,317 Average Rating: 3.87 My Rating: 5/5
I completely and totally fell head over heels with this book when I first started blogging. I still intend to get my hands on a physical copy with that delicious cover, as I currently have an e-ARC, and you know my feelings on eBooks… Check out my review.
4. Pretty Things by Sarra Manning.
Published: January 2005 #Ratings: 1,474 Average Rating: 3.58 My Rating: 4/5
When I read this, I remember thinking it was a little risqué compared to what I normally read as a teen, and I remember thinking it was “real”, and how exciting it was that I wasn’t being talked down to as a teen, but instead reading a book about sexuality! This was also one of the first books I read with LGBT characters. I’m AMAZED it hasn’t gotten more attention.
5. The Before Now and After Then by Peter Monn.
Published: July 2014 #Ratings: 213 Average Rating: 3.58 My Rating: 4/5
This debut novel is one of my favourite LGBT reads. Author, Peter Monn, is now a BookTuber! Check out my review, an author interview, and guest post by Peter.
6. The Second Love of My Life by Victoria Walters.
Published: April 2016 #Ratings: 138 Average Rating: 3.92 My Rating: 4/5
This was a super emotional and well-written contemporary romance that deals with loss, grief and new beginnings. Check out my review, and interview with the author.
7. I Call Myself A Feminist by various.
Published: November 2015 #Ratings: 372 Average Rating: 3.86 My Rating: 4/5
I read Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay last year, which was basically my introduction to feminist texts, and since then I’ve actively tried to intersperse feminist novels and non-fiction throughout my reading. This book intrigued me because it’s a collection of essays that represent the views of “normal” people, not just people in power or scholars. It makes for a good introduction to feminism, and while practising feminists aren’t likely to learn anything earth-shattering from reading it, being able to read about the opinions and experiences of people “other” than yourself, is always beneficial.
8. The Good Psychopath’s Guide to Success by Dr. Kevin Dutton and Andy McNab.
Published: March 2015 #Ratings: 429 Average Rating: 3.76 My Rating: 4/5
I enjoy some non-fiction, and personal development books, from time-to-time. Obviously the title of this one caught my eye, and I have to say, its message has stuck with me, and it would merit a reread. If you need to be more assertive, get in control, and prioritise your needs, you need to read this book. Check out my review.
9. A Girl Called Fearless by Catherine Linka.
Published: May 2014 #Ratings: 705 Average Rating: 3.82 My Rating: 4/5
I really enjoyed this dystopian duology, and always felt that it should be given more recognition and be read by many! Check out my review of the first book in the duo. I also wrote a review of the second book, A Girl Undone, but in a completely different format, where myself and the author discuss the book. It shouldn’t contain any significant spoilers, so if you would like to check that out too, please do!
10. How (Not) To Fall In Love by Lisa Brown Roberts.
Published: February 2015 #Ratings: 846 Average Rating: 3.87 My Rating: 4/5
This was an unexpectedly good YA contemporary romance, that I stayed up until the early hours of the morning to finish, and I love my sleep. If that isn’t testament to a great read, I don’t know what is! Check out my review.

Cool choices! The covers look really well done. I’m surprised I haven’t seen these around more!

I should read my copy of Boys Like You. I’ve enjoyed her adult contemporary novels, so I don’t see why I wouldn’t her YA.

Yes! We’ve talked about this before though, our TBRs are too huge for such plans. However, if it helps, it’s an EXCELLENT summer read… R xx

The Second Love of My Life looks really good. I’m not familiar with any of these, and that’s a shame. The book market is so saturated that we miss out on so many great books that fall through the cracks.

TTT posts always increase my TBR, but what a great way to find out about amazing reads you’re missing out on?! There are SO many books being published now. I’d love to know the stats on how many books are being published today versus 10 and 20 years ago. In fact, that would make a great blog post… I’m off to research! Lol R xx

I’m a fan of Jessica Valenti! She just came out with Sex Object, but I enjoyed Full Frontal Feminism and Why Have Kids?

I read Full Frontal Feminism last year and I’ve yet to review it. I’ll probably need to skim it to do the review. I have to say I wasn’t a massive fan, though Why Have Kids? sounds like an interesting read, as female = motherhood is something I’ve thought a lot about lately. R xx
