Stacking the Shelves & Wrappin’ It Up April 2016

Stacking the Shelves 2016 Book Haul Monthly Wrap Up

Hello! I’m almost sure I had things I wanted to talk about today, but we have a bit of a mini heatwave going on, it’s a Friday, I have revision to do for a 3 hour exam in 4 weeks, and I have work-work to do as well. Oh, and I’m buddy reading A Court of Mist and Fury with Dani, Iris and Chantelle. So right now, my brain has turned to goo. How’s your day going?

The Books:

My #OTSPSecretSister got me A Darker Shade of Magic, which I’m SO excited to get to, it will be my first V E Schwab read, and hopefully not my last as I’ve heard great things about her books! I’m also loving my HUGE Harry Potter mug, and my lovely bookmarks and snitch jewellery. My sister knows how to make me smile!

This month, even though I have absolutely no need to buy books… I picked up a few from The WorksNow and again I need a little retail therapy to keep me sane, and as The Works is so damn cheap, I can’t feel guilty when I buy stuff from them. I just can’t. I got my hands on The Boleyn King, which I’ve been eyeing up for ages. It’s the alternate history of what may have happened had Anne Boleyn had a son, and it’s supposed to be fantastic. I also picked up The Mime Order. No, I haven’t read The Bone Season yet, but I already own it, so now I can binge them together. I’m hopefully going to a blogger/author meet up in July, so in preparation I purchased a couple of books by some authors who are attending (I might actually get some books signed by authors in the flesh, how exciting!). I got The One I Love and Pack Up The Moon, and I hope to get a couple more, and read them, before attending the event!

 Movies and TV Shows:

My sister came to stay with me over a long weekend in April, and as per usual we got nothing done. No work, no blogging, no revision, and no reading. We made up for it by laughing loads and watching so many movies! I saw Thelma and Louise for the first time and was rendered speechless, I laughed and swooned while watching Two Night Stand, things got more serious and gritty with The Suffragette, and we were amazed by Men of Honor.

I’ve also taken a notion to watch all of Gilmore Girls from the start. I’m on Season 1, Episode 11. I feel like I missed out on it when it was originally aired. So lets see how this goes…

Wrappin’ It Up!

In Case You Missed It:

Hot Feminist Book CoverThis month I reviewed The Great Gatsby (2.5/5), Night Owls (4/5), and Hot Feminist (4.5/5). I still have tons of reviews to write up, but at least I’m not stressed that I have to read loads in order to have something to review. I have a nice little backlog waiting on me 🙂

Also this month, I posted a Top Ten Tuesday on the BookTubers You Should Be Following, and an Author Guest Post on Mythology in Fiction, as well as celebrating Confessions of a Book Geek turning 2! Yay!

My most popular post in April was my blogoversary for Confessions of a Book Geek turning 2!

What did you get up to in April? Let me know in the comments, and leave a link to your wrap-up!

  1. Hah. I decided to do a Gilmore Girls bingeing as well. I’m up to season 5 now. It’s so much fun, but of course it can’t all be rainbows. I ended up skipping episodes of this season because of Rory’s questionable taste in one man. Grrr. Anyway, you’re busy! I hope you’ll have a great May!

  2. Can’t believe that’s the first time you’ve seen ‘Thelma and Louise’?? Its brilliant and swoon worthy! Sounds like a great time with your sister. Lovely bookmark too from your optsecretsister.

  3. I’m in the middle of A Court of Mist and Fury right now, and so far I’m loving it, so I hope you enjoy it too! I actually got A Darker Shade of Magic in a deal with ACOMAF so I’ll hopefully be reading that soon too, and I’ve had my eye on The Boleyn King for a while as well! I love historical fiction (especially revolving around the Tudor period), but I don’t think I’ve ever read an alternate history before, so it looks interesting.
I hope you enjoy all your books! 🙂

  4. Check out your month. I love your OTPsecretsister gifts as well. I’m excited to hear your thoughts on A Darker Shade of Magic. I loved it and am terrified to read the next book. I also hope you do read The Bone Season, it’s a series I was drawn into because of the hype and am glad I read because it’s such an interesting world that has been written, I loved it. I saw Two Night Stand a while ago and wasn’t it just so good? I don’t see enough fun romcoms like that one and I really enjoyed it. I haven’t seen enough good films lately so I may check out some that you’ve watched.

  5. I LOVE Gilmore Girls! I never watched it when it aired, either. My best friend and I watched it during the middle part of college (after Alias). I have since watched the series all over again about three or four times. I just love it.

I love what your OTPSecretSIster got you! ❤ And the books you mentioned sound awesome I'll have to look up some of the ones I haven't heard of.
