Last year was my first full year of blogging, and my first opportunity to sign up for some reading challenges. In January 2015, I was so excited to sign up to these, and I was determined I’d do well with them… I’ve discovered being a mood reader can really impact upon the challenges I should be signing up for, so I might make a few tweaks this year… Before I announce what challenges I will be taking part in for 2016, let’s do a quick recap for my 12 Month Challenge Check-In!
Goodreads Reading Challenge
Goal 52 Books Achieved 60
I’m obviously happy I achieved my goal, but this is 2 books less than the 62 I achieved in 2014! However, I was mindful in 2015 that I wanted quality over quantity, so overall I’m really happy with this.
Popsugar Reading Challenge 2015
Goal 50 Books Achieved 37
I’m pretty happy with what I managed to achieve, as some of the challenges are really tricky! This type of challenge works really well for me because I’m not stuck reading one genre. Check out my 2015 Popsugar Challenge results!
ReRead Challenge
Goal 12 Achieved 1
This is awful. I was so excited for this challenge because I’ve discovered so many new favourites that I wanted to reread, and I really wanted to revisit a couple of older ones from my childhood. I think until my TBR goes down, my brain just isn’t going to allow me to reread!
2015 Discussion Challenge
I didn’t set myself a goal for the number of discussion posts I wanted to do in 2015, because discussion ideas come to me so sporadically, but overall I’m really pleased with the discussions I put up. Check out a full list of my 2015 Discussions.
So, what do I have in store for 2016?
Goodreads Reading Challenge
Of course, I’m participating in the Goodreads Reading Challenge. This is my go-to annual challenge that I definitely benefit from taking part in. I’m sticking with a solid goal of 52 books. I know I’ve gone over this for the past 2 years, but a goal of one book per week is achievable for me, and I’m happy with that pace.
Popsugar Reading Challenge 2016
I’m bringing this Challenge back for 2016. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to tick off all 40 books on the list, but as I achieved 37 last year, I’m going to do my best! Keep up to date on my progress with the 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge.
2016 Discussion Challenge
At the risk of sounding repetitive, I’m also bringing this one back for 2016. I found taking part in this challenge helped focus my thinking from time-to-time when it had been a while between discussion posts, and also this year I plan to launch a new feature on my blog that will include lots of opinion pieces. I’m nervous and excited in equal measure!
That’s pretty much it! I’m keeping it simple this year – focussing on hitting my target for the number of books read, trying to keep that small number diverse by incorporating the Popsugar Challenge, and trying not to forget about my blog and creating some (hopefully) interesting discussions as I go along.
Two Challenges worth an honourable mention that I haven’t committed to just yet, but I’ve thought about them over the past month or so, are Lauren’s Must Read in 2016 and Amber’s Goodreads Awards Challenge. Both of these Challenges tie nicely into my natural reading habits, so I may pick them up at some point during the year.
What Challenges are you participating in for 2016 and how are you getting on with them so far?
Congrats on exceeding your Goodreads goal for the year! I think that 52 books is a great goal, especially because it’s easy to consistently keep track of (one book a week). Best of luck with all of your 2016 challenges! 🙂

Thanks, Holly! With work, fitness, study and social commitments included, one per week is manageable! R xx

I’m impressed with the number of books you managed to read last year on the Popsugar reading challenge. I contemplated doing it but it seemed so daunting, but then this year I’m doing two challenges where I have to read a range of genres. It’s great because I’m hoping it will help me tackle my mountain of books waiting to be read. I’m doing the Popsugar one and the Book Riot read hard challenge, both get you to read a variety of books and it should be fun. I won’t be heartbroken if I don’t do all the challenges, but I’ll do as many as I can. I’m with you on the discussion challenge as well. I’m only aiming to do one discussion a month, and then if I do more I’ve achieved something. We’ll see how it goes.

Thanks, Becky! Unless my numbers are way off there were 50 books in the Popsugar challenge last year, and 40 this year? So I’m properly aiming to hit it. It was great to keep going back to the list to see what else on my TBR fit the challenge. There were times when I just read what I wanted to and it didn’t fit (perils of being a mood reader), but if I had have been more strict I maybe could have done it. I saw the Book Riot one and was contemplating doing it too! Is there much cross over? R xx

I only did one reading challenge last year which was the Goodreads Challenge. I’m not a disciplined reader so I don’t know if I could do anything other than maintaining a certain number of reads per year.
Good luck in 2016, Rachel!
