There was once a Book Blogger, who wanted to buy a book, and have it travel all over the US to her Book Blogging friends, who would write little notes inside, and eventually the book would make its way back to her with everyone’s annotations. This Book Blogger was Alicia from A Kernel of Nonsense.

Around this time, another Book Blogger, Rachel at Confessions of a Book Geek, had just watched Ariel Bissett’s video on annotating books, and had written a blog post in response. Originally, she thought writing in books was SACRILEGE. However, the one idea that did appeal to her was having a book annotated by friends, so you could read their comments and thoughts as you were reading the story.

As fate would have it, Alicia reached out to Rachel with a great idea, and The Transatlantic Book Project was born.

10 Book Bloggers. 2 Books. 1 Transatlantic Book Project.

This Project has been in the planning stage for quite a while, and we’re SO EXCITED that it is finally ready for kick off. Our Dream Team of participants includes:

You should go follow these ladies if you would like to keep track of our books as they journey throughout the UK, Ireland (technically, Trish is in Ireland!), and the US, as each Blogger should be posting about the book when they receive it. We will also be using the hashtag #TABookProject on Twitter if you would like to keep up with us over there too!

      I would have less fear over that one because I wouldn’t have to write IN the actual book. It could be tricky to manage with 10 or so bloggers though as you’d have to make sure your notes were chapter-headed so you could read a chapter, then stop and read all the notes relating to that chapter. As much as I’m struggling with the idea of annotating the text, because it was bought for that purpose, and the notes will be in the book as you read along, I think I’m coming around to the idea. I won a book from a BookTuber, and they send it with a little notebook so I could take notes and send it back to her. I thought that was a great idea. I really need to post it though! I think Alicia and I are hoping this idea takes off once the first round is complete – we’ll use this to iron out any kinks and then see if we could host some other Projects too. R xx

      Yes, we’ve decided on them already – I’ll be putting a post up soon about it because we’re reading the books first before sending them on their merry way, keep your eyes peeled for that post, where I’ll be taking palpitations over writing in a book! Lol R xx

      Thanks, Tara! I guess we can answer or respond to each other’s notes if there’s space. Or we could insert post its on the pages if there’s not enough space! Hopefully there’ll be no tears or tantrums! Lol R xx

    This sounds like a cool idea! Can’t wait to see your post about the books you’ve chosen. Will there be more than one book? Are each of you choosing a book and sending on to the next person? Would love to hear more about this.

      Hi Carey. There are two books, which will be announced in the next post. One book will travel the US bloggers, while the other travels the UK bloggers, then we’ll swap and the books will do the rounds again, before ending up with their owners, so when I read my book, there will be notes from 9 other people in it. This is a bit of a pilot scheme for us, so once we’ve done one round we’ll reassess and see if we’ll do it again, and any changes we would make. Should be good fun! R xx
