Top Ten Finished Series I Haven’t Started Yet 

My To Be Read pile is overflowing – new books, old books, stand-alones, series, and pretty much every genre you could think of. When I first joined the Book Blog community, I fell victim to the curse that is “the catch up” – I’d been out of the reading loop for so long, and there were so many fantastic recommendations that I just had to have. Unsurprisingly many of those were series… and many of those were series in which the books were all already released. I’ve since discovered that this can be both a blessing, and a curse. It’s great when you don’t have to wait painstakingly for the next instalment, and you can binge-read the whole story in one go (even when that story is 6 books long and takes you 2 months to finish… *cough* The Mortal Instruments *cough*). However, it can also mean that you have piles of finished series staring at you guiltily from the corner of the room. Piles of them.

TTT Unfinished Series 1

1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: I hear mixed things about this series on a regular basis, mostly that Mafi’s writing is unique in an annoying but beautiful way, and that book one is the weakest of the trilogy (so stick with it). I adore the new covers for this series. Books owned: 1/3

2. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare: I’ve read all of The Mortal Instruments series (though I do wish I had’ve read these before reading books 5 and 6 of TMI, apparently that is the perfect reading order). I’m pretty sure I’ll love these, because Shadowhunters, and I really want to know what this Will-Tessa-Jem fiasco is all about. Books owned: 3/3

3. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi: I’ve heard such amazing things about this series, and I was so looking forward to them. I picked it up for the first time a few weeks ago, and a couple of chapters in it just wasn’t grabbing me, so I’ve set it aside for another day. Books owned: 3/3

4. All Soul’s Trilogy by Deborah Harkness: Having never heard of this series before, I was inspired to pick them up when the first two books were on offer for £3.85 in my local Tesco. A clever marketing ploy in anticipation for the release of book 3. It worked. An adult, paranormal romance? Sounds intriguing, right? Books owned: 3/3

5. The Violet Eden Chapters by Jessica Shirvington: I picked this series up on offer from The Works without realising I already owned a book by Shirvington for review (Between the Lives). I did enjoy her stand-alone, but I have been told this series is better. Some day I’ll get to sink my teeth into it. Books owned: 4/5

TTT Unfinished Series 2

6. Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan: This may come as a surprise, but I’ve never read anything by Riordan. His books are often recommended to those who love Harry Potter, and vice versa, so why I’ve never read them is beyond me. Books owned: 1/5

7. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld: I picked this entire series up when I was going through a massive dystopian phase, and then promptly never got around to reading them. I hear mixed things about this series, but good things about Westerfeld in general. Books owned: 4/4

8. Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: Another series I hear mixed things about, where people either seem to love it or hate it, and once again I was sucked in by those pretty covers. I don’t know much about this series, and I want to go into them pretty much blind, so no spoilers please! Books owned: 1/3

9. Bar Code by Suzanne Weyn: I first read book 1 in this series when I was about 14 – I absolutely adored it, and I still have my battered copy to prove it. Out of all the books I’ve culled over the years (my-precious-and-now-I-regret-it Jacqueline Wilson and Meg Cabot’s included), Bar Code was always kept. It was only recently I discovered that this is a trilogy, and even more recently I managed to get my hands on a copy of book 2. I feel a binge coming on. Books owned: 2/3

10. Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness: Today is all about the Book Geek confessions apparently, Ness is another author I haven’t read yet. *Runs away and hides*. I know, but I do own quite a few of his books, so it will happen, eventually. I think I should just hang my head in shame by this point, don’t you? Books owned: 3/3

    Yay! I’m not alone – I’ve never read anything by Riordan, either! Uglies is one series I finished. My friend made me. It was so much easier to force books on one another when we lived within five feet of each other…anyway, I liked it for the most part.

      I STILL haven’t read Riordan yet, but still have Percy Book 1 on my TBR, along with Uglies… I’ll get to them all some day, right? Lol R xx

    Great list!! I’m the same way! I start so many series that I know are going to be brilliant and then instead of reading the rest of the series straight away I start a different series!

    I don’t have too many series to read, but I do have to finish Tales of the City. My hubbie bought me the final one at Christmas but I’ve been holding off reading it because I don’t want them to end!

      I love/hate when that happens. I’m going to be the same way with Throne of Glass when it finally ends too, I just know it. I’m reading book 4 at the minute, and I’m not sure if I’m just very busy at the minute, or if I’m intentionally reading it slowly to devour it and all of its deliciousness. I saw you’re shortlisted for a blog award by the way, well done you!!

      It’s probably a sin to even ask you this – but are there any releases coming up that you have your eye on as a potential gift? I think that’s the only caveat to your 746… R x

        You should see my birthday list Rachel! It’s about 10 long! Really want the new David Mitchell and the new Margaret Atwood though. I’ve also started using the library sparingly but I still want to focus on that TBR!

        Which one is the new Mitchell? The Bone Clocks?? THAT COVER!

        I have yet to read Atwood, never would have interested me before blogging, but I’m excited to try her.

        Using the library isn’t adding to the TBR, but I guess it’ll take longer to get through the 746. Every time you get down in numbers I get excited for you, and wonder if you/I will be around online for the final countdown!! R xx

    Really good list! I never did finish the Shatter Me series, but kinda stopped wanting to. Same with Mara. I just started A Discovery of Witches this weekend! I was tired of it being on my TBR list for so stinking long.

      I think even when I start those series, they may not be binge-series for me, but more pick them up when I feel like them? There’s so much said about them in the community that it’s hard to ignore them though. I saw that you’d started it on Instagram earlier today, great minds eh? It’s meant to have some hot romance in it, so that’ll keep you entertained!! 😉 I have a reading and fitness related post going up this week I think you’ll enjoy by the way – in it I ask how people juggle it all, but I already know you get up at ridiculous o’clock – maybe someday (distant and far off) I’ll do that too lol I think I’m going through a quarter-life-crisis, going through lots of voluntary and beneficial changes at the minute, but they’re quite out of character for me (not wanting to go out for nights out as much, religious going to, and enjoying, the gym, signing up for physical challenges…) I don’t know what’s wrong with me lol R x

        I didn’t know about the ‘hot romance’ but now I’m REALLY happy I started reading it. LOL. OOOH – I can’t wait for your fitness post! I remember that change in my life. I had no desire to go out anymore. Now I’m obsessed with working out, and I still love reading. When I walk on the treadmill, I read at the same time – kills two birds with one stone. 😉 As we get older, things start to change and different things become a priority! I know how you feel!

        Lol! From what I’ve heard there’s some graphic scenes… could get interesting! Did you change in life happen at 25?! I know I’ve always been mature for my age, but this is ridiculous! And how am I supposed to meet “someone” now?! Sigh. Just need to make an image or two for the post, should be up tomorrow. It’s a little rambly I think, but I’ve tried to reign it in and keep it relevant! R x

        Oh, and yes, I get up at 4 or 4:30 about 4 days a week to run before work. I find that I feel so much better when I do. I’m telling you, once you get into the routine and push past the first week of being SO tired, your body gets used to it. Now when my alarm goes off, I rarely struggle to get out of bed. And then I feel so much better having gotten my run out of the way first thing. And then several days a week I still walk on my lunchtime, just for more activity. And because I’m clearly obsessed. If you get a Fitbit, you’ll understand what I mean about being obsessed. It’s so easy to do with that thing – it keeps me accountable. Honestly though, my recent fitness changes have been the best decision in my life (after my husband and daughter of course).

        Dudette, there is not a snow balls chance in hell I’d get up at that hour!! If you can get me up at 6 or 7 you’d be seriously lucky. Besides, at that time here it would be pitch black outside lol that’s not even morning, it’s still the night before!!! Some people have told me exercising in the morning sets them up for the day though, and when it’s out of the way it frees up your evening… which would be nice. I MIGHT try it at some point, but for the meantime I enjoy my classes, which are in the evening, I find the trainer yelling at me motivational 🙂 I’m seriously debating a training device of some kind, Dad has even offered to get me one for Christmas, which is how I know this has become more than just a fad… But I would need one to monitor activity as opposed to a pedometer style, as a lot of what I so is spin and elliptical… I’m seeing a PT once a month to keep me accountable at the minute, she’s showing me different things I can do in my training to keep it interesting, and she takes my measurements so I can’t lie to myself lol my next session is on Friday, which will be 4 weeks since I started PT sessions, 8 weeks since I started the gym, so will have to let you know how I get on. I know I’ve lost inches because clothes are sitting looser/better. Haha – here’s hoping my fitness changes LEAD to a husband… maybe not the daughter just yet 😉 R xxxxx

        This is so awesome!! I’m happy for you! You will feel amazing and it will lead to amazing things. 🙂

        I’m not sure if Fitbit tracks spin and elliptical. I will have to test it out. My parents gave me their treadmill and it’s been the best thing for me. I use it daily. I prefer to run outside but that’s not good at 4 in the am when it’s pitch black out. 😉

        Yes! Please do test it for me just to see – I don’t know if there is a tracker that will do that without manual input, but if there is I’m interested! I was considering getting an elliptical or bike, but to be honest, the trainers/classes push me to do more and try harder, if I was on my own I’d probably give up quicker lol I need to work out for longer before I try a home gym, to make sure I’ve got it down lol R xxx

    You need to read the Chaos Walking trilogy. My goodness it is fantastic! It made me cry which was the most surprising thing!
    And I also have not read the Percy Jackson series OR the Under the Never Sky series but I really want to read them and many others in your list! Great picks.

    I haven’t read anything from any of the other series you’ve mentioned. I did recently buy the first Percy Jackson book, but I haven’t had a chance to read it.

    I am most definitely suffering from The Catchup!!!

      LOL deal! I’ll need to start it first though…

      I just bought the first Percy Jackson one too, I didn’t want to binge buy the whole series in case I didn’t like it.

      “The Catchup” is so real! I was going to do a post about it specifically, especially in relation to TBR piles. When I first started blogging I had maybe 30-50 unread books… ish? Now it’s over 200… eek! (Though most are charity shop buys, or super amazing deals, I RARELY pay full price for a book!). R x

      LOL I don’t know what actually happens with the three of them, I just know SOMETHING happens! I haven’t given it much thought because I don’t want to ruin it for myself R x

        I really like TMI series, and pretty much everyone says they think TID is the better of the two, so I’m hoping I love it. I did start the first book a good while ago, and it didn’t really grab me, I was distracted by something else at the time, but I’ve every intention of going back to it soon! R x

        I also think that TID is better than TMI, I got a lot more attached to the characters, and because it’s in a different time, and despite their ages, they all seem more adult, which is great.

    I read Shatter Me but to be honest, I didn’t like it so I didn’t continue the series. I have a couple of the others on my eReader but STILL haven’t even started them. 😦 The Discovery of Witches being one I’ve had for 3 years. Yikes!

      But see I’ve heard the first one is the weakest, and even people who LOVE the series LOVE book 3 the most… So at least I’m going in prepared for that lol I’ve heard good things about The Discovery of Witches, looking forward to that one, though they are big books! R x

    Rick Riordan books have been introduced to me several times over the years, but I hadn’t picked one up until last weekend. I just started reading Percy Jackson the Lighting Thief, and OH MY GOSH IT’S SO GOOD! I’m kicking myself for not picking it up sooner.
