The Review
I am so behind on my reviews guys, I read this in May! OK, so I read and loved Slammed, and completely fell head over heels for Will Cooper (because, who wouldn’t), and I was so ridiculously excited to continue this series that I ordered the sequels on-line when I was only about 70 pages into Slammed. CoHo is one of a few authors where anything else I’m reading just gets put down in order to read her books the minute they come through my letterbox. And Point of Retreat is from the POV of Will, my favourite CoHo leading man, so I knew I’d be on to a winner…
This book picks up a few months after the end of Slammed, and we see our main characters try to settle into domestic life at a young age – settle into their new relationship, into their new roles as quasi-parents, and into general grown-up life (yea, it isn’t easy, and they don’t give classes in it to prepare you, and they should). Ahem – anyways – the story obviously has to have conflict, it wouldn’t be a Hoover book if it didn’t break our hearts, but it was so excellently done. There were a couple of elements in this book that I particularly loved, such as the vase of star-shaped notes, and the addition of child-character Kristen – she is a hilarious genius.
Even though Lake could, at times, come across as too stubborn or immature, I have to say that it does feel realistic given her circumstances, and there’s something about her stubborn nature that comes across more like a feisty strength to me. After a while though, given the storyline of the book, I did want to knock some sense into her, but she got there eventually. I butterflying LOVE Colleen Hoover!

Thanks, B! I struggled with writing it because I read the book a while ago and I’m terrible at taking notes while reading! I really need to catch up on my outstanding reviews, and then maybe try to get better at post-its or GRs updates!! Only one more to review from this series now, and thankfully I can remember what I want to say for it! I was going through my shelves the other day, and seeing all my CoHo’s lined up just makes me smile! R x

This is a great review. I admit, I’ve been dithering about whether or not to give this a read. I really enjoyed Slammed and am always nervous reading a book which continues after the ‘happily ever after’ of the previous book. I know I’ll read it eventually, but your review is definitely motivating me to make it sooner rather than later.

Thanks, Becky! I struggled with this one because it had been a while since I’d read the book. I definitely felt this book was a solid continuation of the story, it didn’t feel superfluous at all, although I did give Slammed 5/5 and Point of Retreat 4.5/5, but it was marginal! I actually think I teared up at this one more… Also, This Girl is very much a retelling of the first two books, it got 4/5 from me. However, I read the entire thing with a big old goofy grin on my face. Review to follow 😉 R x

Ahhhh you’re making me really want to reread the Slammed series, it’s been far too long!!! Also… OH MY GOD… YES!!! I AM SO BEHIND ON REVIEWS. I have books I read months and months ago that I haven’t even got to yet. I am not even going to be able to review them at all because I won’t remember a thing. IT’S TERRIBLE >.<

I HATE having to try and remember bits and pieces to put together a review from a while ago, I keep threatening to take notes, or at least use Goodreads updates, but I rarely do. And I really should, because every time I do it makes writing the review so much easier! I need to so some housekeeping on the blog too this weekend. I want to do more rereads, including Colleen Hoover, but there’s too many new books to read!! R x
