The fabulous BookTuber and Book Blogger, Sarah-Jane (BookTube Channel / Book Blog), created the Mean Girls Book Tag, and I couldn’t not participate in it. I love Mean Girls, can practically quote the whole movie, and used to watch it on repeat when I was younger. It’s basically a classic now, right? Be prepared, there are some cuss words in the following post, and plenty of gifs 😉
It’s Pronounced Like “Cady”.
Which fictional characters’ names did you get completely wrong?
When I first read the Harry Potter books at around nine or ten years old, I always pronounced Hermione, Her-my-own. Apparently, lots of people pronounced it wrong, which prompted Rowling to include the proper pronunciation when Viktor Krum enters the series. Recently, I was pronouncing Chaol wrong from Throne of Glass (I was saying “Cole”), and Feyre wrong from A Court of Thorns and Roses (“Faire”). Damn you, S J Maas.
She Doesn’t Even Go Here!
Pick a fictional character that you would like to place in another fictional character’s world.
I always find these kinds of questions so tricky! I guess an obvious choice is to drop Katniss into Divergent and Tris into The Hunger Games? Or is that a complete cop-out?
On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink.
Repetition, repetition. Which book gave you déja vu of another book while reading it?
Thankfully, I don’t come across this too often. Dystopian novels will usually have some form of similarity due to the nature of them, but one in particular that I reviewed last year, Torn True Love, was definitely too similar to The Hunger Games for my liking. There are districts, and each specialises in a commodity for the rest of the population.
You all have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.
Which book gave you the complete opposite of girl power feels?
Tease by Amanda Maciel. Even though I struggled to rate and review this book, and couldn’t quite figure out where I stood on it, it definitely stayed with me and was a pretty powerful, if unsettling, read.
You Go Glen Coco!
Name a character you felt like you wanted to cheer on whilst reading.
I usually get this for couples, more than individuals. My Couple-Cheer goes to Nate and Monroe in Boys Like You, my Character-Cheer goes to Isabelle from The Nightingale (actually, I rated both these books 5*, and I don’t give 5* to just any book!).
Get in Loser, We’re Going Shopping!
How long do you typically spend at a book shop?
No where near as long as I’d like! I don’t spend too long in full price book shops (sorry!), because I’m such a bargain hunter at heart. There is a discount bookstore near me, and when they have new stock in I can peruse for a while, but their book selection has decreased somewhat over the years as it has become a bit more of a discount-everything-shop (kids toys, craft stuff, etc.). My new favourite thing to do is browse charity shops though, and I can spend quite a while in those!
It’s Not My Fault You’re Like In Love With Me Or Something!
Which character would have to get out a restraining order on you, if they were real?
Hahaha! So many. Too many. I get new book boyfriends weekly. Off the top of my head I’d say: Will Cooper from the Slammed series, Lucas from How (Not) To Fall In Love, Chaol from Throne of Glass, Ethan from Between The Lives, Kit from Come Back To Me, Noah from Pushing The Limits, Nate from Boys Like You, Miles from Ugly Love… See where I’m going here?
I Can’t Help It That I’m Popular.
Which over-hyped book were you cautious about reading?
I’m cautious about reading all of the hyped books, the Hype Monster ruins peoples’ lives… I’ve just half-quoted Mean Girls, this tag will haunt me. I was cautious about reading Paper Towns and If I Stay, and for good reason, as both underwhelmed me. I’m always cautious about Colleen Hoover books because she’s one of my favourite authors, but she never disappoints!
She’s A Life Ruiner. She Ruins Peoples’ Lives.
We all love Regina George. Name a villain you just love to hate.
Dolores-bloody-Umbridge. She has to be my most hated villain of all time! And therefore, I love to hate her. Ugh, she makes me angry even thinking about her!
I’m Not Like A Regular Mom, I’m A Cool Mom.
Your favourite fictional parents.
This is so hard, because fictional parents are either absent, are the cause of conflict, or aren’t overly present in much of what I read… My favourite fictional parent is Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird.
That Is So Fetch!
Which book or series would you love to catch on?
Has Throne of Glass caught on? Is it mainstream popular now and not just popular in the on-line book community? Apart from it, other books or series I think are under-rated and need more attention are I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios, Before I Go by Colleen Oakley, and Far From You by Tess Sharpe.
How Do I Even Begin To Explain Regina George?
Describe your ideal character to read about.
It can change depending on what mood I’m in. Generally, I love realistic characters with issues or flaws, whatever form they come in. I love character development in a novel, so I like a character that goes through events that change them in some way. I like reflective characters, ones that have actual thought processes going on, and that aren’t vacant. And of course, I love my kick-ass, sarcastic and witty females!
I Just Have A Lot Of Feelings.
What do you do when a book gives you a bad case of ‘the feels’?
I wallow in them. Usually in the comfort of my bed. On a rare occasion, I’ve had to put the book down, particularly if it’s a very well written scene, and just let the words sink in.
Nice Wig Janice, What’s It Made Of? – Your Mom’s Chest Hair!
Which character’s one liners would you love to claim for your own?
I don’t know if I can remember that many one liners off hand to know who I’d pick. From memory, Celaena from Throne of Glass is pretty feisty and has plenty of one liners. To be fair, Ron Weasley from Harry Potter has loads too.
Boo, You Whore.
Name a time a characters decision has made you roll your eyes.
The DUFF just didn’t work for me at all, and I eye rolled quite a lot at it. There were elements I enjoyed, but overall it just wasn’t for me.
This tag has seriously made me want to re-watch Mean Girls! The entire script is just one liner after one liner, I should really read/watch more by Tina Fey if this is her sense of humour. It’s also really interesting to see where the actresses have ended up – I adored Lindsey Lohan when I was a young teen, and she’s basically off the radar now. I’d never heard of Rachel McAdams before (and Regina was a horrible character), but I love her so much now and she’s done so well. While I don’t particularly rate Amanda Seyfried, she’s done so well too, it’s just a shame Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Weiners, kind of disappeared. Did you even know that was her real name? Me neither.
I’m tagging:
I love Mean Girls and I really want to rewatch it now! I’m totally doing this tag, it seems like a lot of fun.

It’s amazing how the prompt for each question started me on a Mean Girls monologue of practically the whole script. A generation at least can quote this movie, it’s such a part of our culture now basically. Orange is the New Black even does On Wednesday’s (I think) We Wear Orange on Instagram. Link me up to your tag when you’ve done it! R x

The way you feel about Mean Girls is how I feel about Clueless. I’ve only ever seen Mean Girls one time in my life, but I’ve seen Clueless a couple hundred, and can quote it scene for scene. Which is pretty sad. Lol.
This is fun!!

I’ve only seen it a handful of times, and quite a few years ago. I should watch it again as a “grown up”, the number of things you miss as a younger person is shocking! You get a whole new appreciation of some of the jokes and stuff when you’re older. You should invent a Clueless Tag!! R x

Hahhaah! Love this tag, Rachel! I don’t think it’d be possible for me to love this movie anymore than I do, but apparently, I can.

Dolores Umbridge is a character I love to hate too. She is so vile! (And I pronounced Hermione incorrectly until book 4 too. Oops!)

OMG THIS IS SUCH A FUN TAG!!! (And the questions are downright awesome, so I can’t wait to do this! 😀 :D) Ahhh, it totally is a classic. I think I’ve only seen it once though (oh, maybe twice!) but I never watch movies, so I balme it on that. It’s like the PERFECT show and we always quote it. I mean the whole label of “mean girl” and “plastics” came from there, right?! I think??hehe, aaaanyway.
I would LOVE to see Throne of Glass go big, like Game of Thrones did (!!) but for a younger audience, but I feel like it won’t because of, u, Game of Thrones. XDXD STILL. I can live in hope.
I pronounced Chaol like “Chay-OLE”. I still do. >_< I knooow it's Kale, but nope. Can’t.

Yea, I think a lot of the pop culture references we know and love came from this movie, and Tina Fey’s writing. It’s so good, how could you not have watched it more?! R x

All these gifs are making want to watch Mean Girls again! I wonder if it’s on Netflix…I didn’t know how to pronounce Chaol for a while either and I ended up hunting down a pronunciation guide while reading Throne of Glass because I was sort of just mumbling incoherently in my head whenever his name came up. Great tag and I’m looking forward to giving it a go!

I love this tag, I like you, knew the entire script of Mean Girls when I was younger I now have an incredibly strong urge to watch it again. Just seeing those gifs I can hear the lines being said. I am seriously going to have to get writing my post for this it’s an excuse to watch Mean Girls, even though that isn’t actually necessary for the tag.

I haven’t watched it yet since doing this tag, but it’s happening, I can feel it! There’s so many more great one liners too! R x

OMG this tag is the most amazing thing to ever happen in the history of ever!!!!
Maybe I go too far, but my Mean Girls love is strong. I am so going to be watching that tonight. I also know for a fact that I will be doing this tag as soon as I can!!!!
I totally pronounced Hermione that way too, my sister corrected me. She didn’t even have to wait for the film to come out, she just knew. I hated her, and ended up feeling like an idiot. As a child, I thought Persephone in Noughts & Crosses was pronounced purse-ee-phone. NOPE… NOT KIDDING!!! >.< And Chaol; beautiful, amazing Chaol – I was pronouncing CHA-ALE. WHY, CHARNELL, WHY??!!?!!?
I don't think it's a cop out. I would find that interesting to read. Mostly because I think Katniss would laugh at Dauntless and their idea of what is truly scary. And Tris would end up dead in the Hunger Games! :')
I don't spend too long in bookshops either. Mostly because I am out with the boyfriend whenever I do, and he is not a fan! He's always trying to rush me out. Probably for my own good, or I would buy EVERYTHING!
Umbridge. Yup, love to hate that bitch!
FAR FROM YOU!!!! ❤ My love for that book is so strong and deserves so much more love and recognition than it currently gets.
Great tag!!! 🙂 Will definitely be doing it.

HAHAHA – I have Sarah-Jane to thank for this. It’s the movie of our generation really isn’t it? And better yet, it’s timeless so far, the jokes aren’t dated at all!
We used to argue about how to pronounce Hermione in primary school, my favourites were Her-my-own and Her-my-ninny – like where did that even come from? At least our version makes sense?! I used to called Persephone that too! But more like Purse-y-phone, which is probably the same way you said it actually, just my accent would put more emphasis on the phone than the y lol Cha-ale isn’t too far off lol I was thinking of Cole from Charmed when I read his name, but just thought it was spelt funky. Fantasy hurts my head sometimes with the names!
Hahaha! That’s why I picked Katniss and Tris to swap!
Can’t wait to see your answers! R x
