Top Ten Books That I Want In My Beach Bag

Last year I did the Top Ten Books For Your Beach Bag, this year I’m unashamedly making it all about me. I’m still trying to make some time for reading and blogging after getting my dissertation out of the way last week, I’m getting there slowly! So, because I haven’t been able to read much lately, I’m going to do this post based on the Top Ten books I’d be bringing to the beach, if I had the time to get to the beach!

Beach Reads TTT 2015

1. Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry: I’m starting off with some eARCs I need to get to. I really enjoyed Pushing the Limits and Dare You To, and really need to get to the rest of the Pushing the Limits series! As well as this book, the first in the Thunder Road series. McGarry’s books are just perfect for summer – romance, swoons and some drama, what’s not to love?

2. Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting: I’m pretty sure I’ve heard really good things about this series, and I have the first two waiting to be read. I think it’s a New Adult romance, has anyone read this? Should I get to it soon?

3. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon: A debut novel about a girl who’s allergic to the world. The story is told through texts, diary entries, charts, lists and illustrations. Not only does it sound intriguing, but I really loved the cover…

4. The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare: This book is a bit of a beast, so I’d like to leisurely read through it. That, and I’m really beginning to miss the Shadowhunter world, and summer is the perfect time to read about paranormal adventures. I’m not the only one who thinks that, right?

5. Storm Glass by Maria V Snyder: You could just throw the whole Glass series in here. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this series, people have even compared it to Throne of Glass… Or compared Throne of Glass to it… I’m not sure which came first. Really looking forward to marathoning these!

6. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: So Jenny Han was hyped all over the show, as was this series. I picked it up on offer, but then started reading really varied reviews. I haven’t been inclined to pick it up, but I think summer time might just be the perfect opportunity. The clue’s in the title, really.

7. The Girl With All The Gifts by M R Carey: To be fair, this doesn’t exactly scream “summer!”, but I’ve heard nothing but good things, and the premise sounds quite original, so I’m excited to get to this one!

8. The Two of Us by Andy Jones: This book was just released in May 2015, and I managed to snag it for £1.99. I was impressed with my own bargain-hunting skills with this one. It sounds like a great summer read – “falling in love is the easy part, what matters most is what happens next…”

9. Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell: I have to get a good “personal development” read or two in this summer, and I picked this one up with a giftcard I received for Christmas. In Outliers, Gladwell examines what makes successful people successful. Sounds like a winner.

10. More Balls Than Most by Lara Morgan: Perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek with this one. My boss lent it to me though, so I really need to read it and get it back to him!

I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things! Now my dissertation is out of the way, I’m completing the 5K Pretty Muddy run for Cancer Research UK this weekend. After that, I’m chilling out for a while! When I do, which of these do you think I should get to first? Link me up to your posts!

      I was lucky enough to win my copy. I love the cover, but it is a BIG book. Looking forward to those and the new novellas that follow Simon post-City of Heavenly Fire. Gonna get them when they’re released as a bind-up. As much as part of me is like “Cassie, please step away from the Shadowhunters”, the other part of me LOVES that there’s so many stories set in that world. I just want to gobble them all up! R x

      Thought you might be glad that one is in there! I’m reading an adult contemp at the minute, which is quite slow and long, feel like I need something gripping to shake it up a little! And yay for similar cover tastes!! R x

    Best of luck for your run, a great cause. ‘Everything, Everything ‘ sounds interesting. I haven’t heard of any of them actually, so I will look forward to reading what you think of them.

    I really want to read Nowhere But Here too. I’m not even gone on the setting but I know Katie McGarry will have fab characters and epic romances that will just draw me in. I haven’t read any of your picks but they sound good especially The Girl with All the Gifts. I think I’d read the bosses book first thought! 🙂

    Malcolm Gladwell is one of my fav non-fiction writers and Outliers is the first of his books that I read. i love the 10,000 hours theory and have been working towards it ever since.
    I look forward to hearing what you think about it.
