Top Ten Male Characters Who Have My Heart
It’s a bit of a free pick this week – sometimes I feel like I haven’t read widely enough yet to be able to fill a TTT post on characters alone, but I do have a weak spot for my book boyfriends, so here’s ten of my recent favourites.
1. Will Cooper from Slammed: A recent addition to my list of swoon-worthy men – Hoover’s leading men are always appealing but Will is the one who currently has my heart. The minute I finished Slammed I immediately ordered Point of Retreat and This Girl, I can’t wait to see where the story goes!
“I don’t not fall in love with him. I don’t not fall in love with him a lot!”
2. Josh Mitchell from I’ll Meet You There: I’ll Meet You There was a super highly anticipated book for me this year. It didn’t disappoint, and neither did Josh. The romance in this book was just so… slow-burningly brilliant, and there was much more substance involved too.
“I don’t really know what it means to move on, but lately, with Sky, I’m starting to feel like I want to because when I look at her, I don’t see you or the war or any of the shit in my head. I just see her, and it’s like suddenly I can breathe again after holding my breath for so long.”
3. Lucas from How (Not) To Fall In Love: I read and reviewed this book as part of a blog tour, and discovered such a little gem that really does deserve more love. Check out my full review of How (Not) To Fall In Love.
4. Ethan from Between the Lives: While this book wasn’t perfect for me, Ethan certainly was one of the major highlights. This book was a solid read, with an interesting premise and a swoony romance to boot. Check out my full review of Between the Lives.
“Being with you, loving you, making memories with you, fearing for you, wanting to show you the beauty of life instead of the terror – it was bittersweet, but more importantly Sabine, it was real.”
5. Chaol from the Throne of Glass series: My current Ship, OTP, and everything in between goes to Chaolaena full review of Throne of Glass.
“Celaena,” he breathed, his voice laced with pain–and hope. This was all she had left–his outstretched hand, and the promise of hope, of something better waiting on the other side of the line.”
6. Silas from Never Never: This is an early guess – but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna fall hard for Silas Nash. Bring it on CoHo and Fisher, I’m ready for it! Check out my full review of Never Never Part One.
“You think you can make me like you again?” I look over at her and give my head the slightest shake. “No. I’m gonna make you fall in love with me again.”
7. Kit from Come Back To Me: I’ve been loving NA contemporaries since I first discovered them in 2014, and this is one that has stayed with me. Its main themes include military and mental health issues. Check out my full review of Come Back To Me.
“Does he make you see stars?’ he asks in a low voice. ‘Does he call you his north star? Because that’s what you are to me. You’re the reason I made it home.”
8. Noah Hutchins from Pushing the Limits: Although I enjoyed Dare You To, Noah is my favourite from McGarry’s leading males so far. I’ve a couple of her novels to get to yet though, so his rank may change! Check out my full review of Pushing the Limits.
“I gazed into her beautiful green eyes and her fear melted. A shy smile tugged at her lips and at my heart. Fuck me and the rest of the world, I was in love.”
9. Nathan Everets from Boys Like You: I gush about this novel on a regular basis, I know, but Nathan Everets!! This novel came along at just the right time for me, because it hit all the high notes and left me with a big cheesy grin on my face wanting more. Check out my full review of Boys Like You.
“It had been so long since I’d let anyone touch me, let alone hold me like this. Like we were already a part of each other. “Are you done waiting?” “Yeah,” he said throatily. “I am.”
10. Callum from Noughts and Crosses: Ugh. Callum. I crushed out on Callum when I first read this book at the grand old age of 14, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I reread it last year and still crushed out on him at the slightly older age of 24. Check out my Noughts and Crosses series overview.
““I pulled him closer to me, wrapping my arms around him, kissing him just as desperately as he was kissing me. Like if we could just love long enough and hard enough and deep enough, then the world outside would never, could never hurt us.”
Share with me some of your favourite book boyfriends/girlfriends! Who makes you swoon?
I love most of these. I hope you will, too:)

A few of these are on my Classics Club list as well – some good choices! I don’t have Bell Jar on that list, but I recall enjoying it when I read it for school.

Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 are definitely two of my favorite dystopian classics, and both books are brilliant and definitely worth reading. To Kill A Mockingbird is another favorite of mine, as well as One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. 🙂

omg I’m always surprised when I heard people haven’t read Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury is amazing! A lot of great books on this list.

It’s definitely one I want to check out soon. The fact I read and LOVED To Kill A Mockingbird has made me much more open to reading more classics! R x

ohhhh, pride and prejudice, farenheit 451 and to kill a mockingbird are three of my favourites ❤

I really really need to meet Never Never and Slammed. I love Colleen Hoover so much so I really just have to read all her books. Yes yes for Chaol and Noah though! Love then both so much!

Slammed was SO good! I’ve nearly read all of Hoover’s backlist now, and if the rest of the series keeps up, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a favourite! Never Never Part 2 is out soon, so definitely get on that as well, part 1 was a quick read, and I’m hoping for great things from the story! R x

Your comment was here OK, I moderate comments so they don’t approve until I see them and reply to them (helps me keep track so I can reply to them all!). As in Wuthering Heights?? It’s on my TBR for Classics Club but I haven’t read it yet, all I know is the Kate Bush song! Lol R x

I adore Chaol! Although I have to admit that the 3rd book gave me some new male characters to love. I’ve read some Colleen Hoover and always love her male characters but I have yet to read Slammed and Never Never -but now I can’t wait for the latter, I’ll need to read it soon. You made me want to (re)read almost every single book on your list!

Hmmm.. Heir of Fire did give me at least one new male to appreciate, but I was so apprehensive of him for so long (and still am a little) because if he comes between my OTP there will be angry tweets!! Lol CoHo is my Queen! I feel I need to make badges for this á la Weasley is our King. Slammed was FAB, Never Never is only half a story so far, but I loved it and it is promising! Haha I’m meant to be doing the reread challenge this year and I’ve managed ONE so far. I could do with rereading them too! R x

I haven’t read ANY of these books so unfortunately I can’t swoon with you, but I’m clicking through to all your reviews now to decide who I should consider falling in love with 😛 I have a copy of Pushing the Limits so I might start there.
I can’t really think of any book boyfriends right now… although I kind of have a huge girl crush on Cinder.

NONE of them?! But then you do crazy shiftwork and save lives and whatnot, so I don’t know how you blog let alone read!! Hopefully my reviews are useful to you! I’d say if you like Fantasy, definitely read Throne of Glass! If you love contemporaries with some deeper issues, Katie McGarry is hard to beat. Colleen Hoover is just a must, and Noughts and Crosses (dystopian) is practically a modern day classic, at least in my eyes. Celaena from Throne of Glass is my current girl crush, I HAVE to get to Cinder soon, all the good things are said about it! R x

WILL COOPER! It makes me happy to see you loved Slammed. This was my first CoHo book, the one that started my obsession!

Oh yes. I went into it with caution because it was her first, and a series, so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it, but WOW. Are books #2 and #3 as good? I can’t wait til they get here, and I have a bank holiday weekend coming up – ALL the reading! I do wish they had nicer covers though… R x

There was a cover remake and I love the new ones, but I don’t think they’re sold in the US. 😦 http://www.underthecoversbookblog.com/2013/04/covers-to-covet-135.html
Book #2 is equally amazing. Book #3 is from Will’s POV, and it is good, but I didn’t love it as much as 1 & 2.
I want a holiday for all the reading! So jealous!

I’ve seen those on Book Depository and Amazon! I do think they’re better than the plain black ones, but I’m not mad about them either. I picked up the black cover for £3 cheaper on Amazon, so now I have to have a matching series. Le Sigh. Ahh.. she’s done that other perspective thing again. I’m so glad in her more recent releases she does alternate POV chapters instead of whole books. That just works so much better for me! I’m off Fri and Mon, but no doubt I’ll be lazy and get half of what I want/need to get done actually done! I have a dissertation to write as well… Hmmm, I might sneak some chapters in. R x

Chaol Westfall. Yes, please. Though I’d be hard-pressed if I had to choose between him and Hector from the Fire and Thorns series. I also harbor a big time crush on Gansey from the Raven Cycle (you must read these soon).

I want them to make a movie/tv show just so I can drool over an actual Chaol. I haven’t read Fire and Thorns yet.. and I do have to get to The Raven Cycle soon. They’re actually on my bedside table and I keep wanting to pick them up, but the wait for the last book will kill me. I’m already stuck waiting for Throne of Glass’ next releases for ages.. R x

Have any actors in mind for the role?

I’m really crap at this you know, if the movie studio gave me a list of contenders I could pick my favourite, but otherwise I’m keek at picking people. In my head though Celaena is a Natalie Dormer type look (a little old to play her, but she could rock it) and Chaol is a more rough around the edges guy-who-plays-Nate-in-gossip-girl, and in a uniform. Do you have any picks? R x

Not particularly, but I always thought Bob Morley would make a fine Chaol since I believe the books mention he has darker skin.

He has Chaol hair. HE HAS CHAOL HAIR. Sold. I have a thing for hair I guess. This may not sound good, but sometimes character descriptions stay with me, and sometimes they don’t linger as much – I always pictured Jace from TMI as being brunette, apparently in the books he’s fair. Completely deserted my attention. I vividly remember Clary being a redhead though. Strange. R x

It’s probably because of the cover art that you remember Clary being a redhead. Have you heard of the TV series they are making of TMI? They’ve cast Jace, Simon, and Isabelle.
LikeLike
Possibly! That or the movie adaptation. I have heard about it, I’m excited for it! They seem to be making a lot of changes to the storyline too though. As soon as I read this I went and checked it out – I only knew Jace had been cast. I like Isabelle, she’s much more how I imagined… not fussed on Simon though – Robert Sheehan was great casting I thought, it’ll be hard to top that. R x

Yes, you can, Quinn! He’s so hot. I’ve only read Pushing the Limits and Dare You To – I have 2 others from that series to read, and Nowhere But Here to get to yet, I will soon though, I feel a McGarry weekender coming on! R x

YES to Chaol. Funnily enough, many of the guys on here I haven’t read about yet! I guess that means there are more swoon-worthy male characters out there for me to explore 😉

Oh my goodness, Chaol, yes! Such a big shipper of Chaolaena. Although I had to fight with myself when I was reading Heir of Fire, I was almost swayed by Rowan.

Nooooooo, Sunny! Do not allow yourself to go to the DARK side! I was nervous reading Heir of Fire in case Maas managed to make me like Rowan in that way, by the end of the read I was definitely warmed to him, but as a friend and not a romantic interest. It has to be Chaolaena! R x

OMG. I CANNOT RIGHT NOW. I SHIP CHAOLENEA SO HARD THAT I CANNOT. IJUST. YES. PLEASE. THEY MUST FIX THIS. **cries forever because seriously believes they won’t fix it** I mean, I would’ve felt more positive if there’d been a whiff of them in Heir of Fire BUT THERE WAS NOT. Hooooow could SJM let this happen?!!

FIX it? FIX IT? I don’t believe for one minute it’s over, Maas is employing some terrible drama creating device to create tension in the series which will only be resolved in book 5 or 6. I’ve reserved myself to this fact, so she can toy with my emotions for a little longer without me going insane. There’s no way she can do that to us. I won’t accept it. 😀 R x

OMG, there are so many swoon-worthy men on this list, now all I want to do is read every book on this list because I need to refresh my memory on some of these swoon-worthy fellas, and some of these books I haven’t read! Is Slammed good, it’s on my kindle waiting to be read and I’ve not motivated myself to read it yet?

Slammed was mucho good!! I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. I finished it and immediately went online to buy the next two in the series, which I’m reading this weekend. Think you’d really like it!! R x
