Top Ten Anticipated 2015 Debuts!

This was the most challenging TTT post I’ve ever written! The research! The doubt! The fear! I’ve put together a list of ten debuts I think look interesting for 2015 based on their cover, synopsis and/or buzz in the community. Most of my anticipated reads of 2015 aren’t debuts, so this was a little tricky!

Anticipated 2015 Debuts

1. Before I Go by Colleen Oakley: A heart-wrenching debut novel in the bestselling tradition of P.S. I Love You about a young woman with breast cancer who undertakes a mission to find a new wife for her husband before she passes away.

2. Even When You Lie To Me by Jessica Alcott: In this stunning debut, Jessica Alcott explores relationships – and their boundaries – in a way that is both searingly honest and sympathetic.

3. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard: This is a world divided by blood – red or silver. The poverty-stricken Reds are commoners, living in the shadow of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers. To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from the Stilts, it looks like nothing will change. Then Mare finds herself working at the Silver palace, in the midst of those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

4. We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach: Four high school seniors put their hopes, hearts, and humanity on the line as an asteroid hurtles toward Earth in this contemporary novel.

5. Made You Up by Francesca Zappia: Made You Up tells the story of Alex, a high school senior unable to tell the difference between real life and delusion. Armed with a take-no-prisoners attitude, her camera, a Magic 8-Ball, and her only ally (her little sister), Alex wages a war against her schizophrenia, determined to stay sane long enough to get into college.

6. The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by Stephanie Oakes: When 17 year-old Minnow stumbles out of the woods one winter morning, she is haunted and handless and covered in someone else’s blood. She has just escaped the strict religious commune run by a cruel man named the Prophet. In exchange for freedom, she leaves behind her family, her home, and Jude – an outsider boy who changed everything.

7. The Girl on the Train by Paula HawkinsRachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she watches the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

8. The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall: To fight her destiny as the missing heir to a powerful and dangerous secret society, 16 year-old Avery West must solve an ancient puzzle in a deadly race across Europe.

9. The Distance Between Lost and Found by Kathryn Holmes: On a group hike, the incessant bullying pushes Hallie to her limit. When Hallie, Rachel, and Hallie’s former friend Jonah get separated from the rest of the group, the situation quickly turns dire. Stranded in the wilderness, the three have no choice but to band together.

With past betrayals and harrowing obstacles in their way, Hallie fears they’ll never reach safety. Could speaking up about the night that changed everything close the distance between being lost and found? Or has she traveled too far to come back?

10. A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas: Rhiannon Thomas’s dazzling debut novel is a spellbinding re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty and what happens after happily ever after.

I’m not usually one for re-tellings, but quite a few made my list! There’s no guarantee I’m going to get to these this year, as my TBR is sizable, But I’m hoping I get an ARC of one or two at least. This post has also made me wish publishers released one super-duper master-list of all titles coming out in the next 12 months – researching this was harder than I thought it would be!

Are you looking forward to any of my anticipated debuts? Are there some debuts coming out this year you think I’ll LOVE? Let me know in the comments!

This was a tough post! I could only come up with 6 books because most of my highly anticipated books this year aren’t debut authors. I am really excited to read Before I Go, even more so since I got it off Netgalley yesterday! Can’t wait to start it!

The Girl on the Train is really good. If you enjoyed Gone Girl, I think you’ll like it!

I can’t wait for A Wicked Thing to come out – I love retellings, so a Sleeping Beauty one sounds amazing! In pretty excited about The Conspiracy of Us to, although that’s partly because I really like the cover. 🙂

I bought the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales last year and they are definitely a lot darker than the Disney versions! I didn’t realise The Minnow was retelling too, but it sounds interesting. 🙂 I hope you get to some of them at some point!

I’ll have to have a look at the story. 🙂 And it’s definitely worth getting a nice copy of it, some of the stories are really good!

      1. Have you heard of Brain on Fire? I haven’t read it myself but I’ve heard really good things about it. I’ll have to watch this. I don’t believe that society knows how to really deal with mental illness, and we tend to either ignored it or romanticize it.
