Top Ten Characters I Wish Would Get Their Own Book

This was a bit of a tricky topic for me, I had to give it some serious consideration because so few names jumped right into my head!

1. Lily, James, Sirius, Remus etc. from Harry PotterI think all Potter fans, but particularly the older ones, would squeal in delight if Rowling ever decided to do an adult series (or a Children’s series) following the teenage and grown-up exploits of this lot. And I would definitely be one of them.

2. Chaol from Throne of GlassI fell in love with him a little bit, and I think he has a really interesting back-story, I just know there’s more going on there! I’ve read The Assassin’s Blade novella-bind-up and Throne of Glass already, and I have the next two waiting for me to devour, but I’m basically petrified that this is the end of Chaol and Celeana because I’ve heard another name around the interwebs (Rowan)…

3. Nehemia from Throne of Glass – Was I the only one who was completely intrigued by Nehemia? It just feels like there’s so much unanswered and so much left to say! Basically, Maas should write novellas for all of her side characters, please and thank you.

4. Alba DeTamble from The Time Traveler’s Wife – I’m just about to start a reread of this for Sci-Fi November! Alba inherited Henry’s time-travelling abilities, but she seems to have more control over it as a second-generation time-traveller. Now that the medical world knows about this ability, how is life for Alba? Does she get to see her dad often? I need  to know more!

5. Alice from Twilight  Alice was always one of my favourite characters from this series. I think I need to reread it at some point though. I enjoyed these books the first time I read them, but because they receive so much criticism, I want to reread them to see if I still enjoy them. If I do, then I can happily fangirl with conviction.

6. Kevin from We Need To Talk About Kevin – I’m not sure if I want to go inside this character’s head or not. The book is so perfectly done as it is, and to write from Kevin’s perspective would be to answer some of the intentional questions posed by the original text. However, it would be amazing to get inside his head to see what his motivations were, how he really feels, and to answer the nature vs. nurture conundrum.

7. Trevor from Boys Like You – I’m kind-of cheating with this one, as I just found out from the author yesterday that Trevor’s book will be out in May 2015. I really loved Boys Like You (check out my review) and can’t wait to be back in this world with some of my favourite characters, including Trevor, who spent pretty much all of this book in a coma.

8. Emma from Tease – The one book that causes so many confused feelings within me, that I’m still thinking about it (and debating whether I liked it or not) practically a year later. Check out my review of Tease. The story is told from the perspective of the bullies, and while I found elements of it unsatisfactory, it felt very real, and really made me think. So, I have to ask – was Emma suffering from a mental health problem? There are hints that she has a history of issues. Was she a completely innocent victim or was she equally bullying the bullies? What really happened?

9. Rosie from The Rosie Project – A short novella would even do for this one, but while Don is being his charming self, did no one else wonder what on earth was going through Rosie’s mind? My review for The Rosie Project.

10. Mark Darcy from Bridget Jones – She was the UK’s favourite spinster, who finally got the guy (yes, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the third book), and I would love to get my hands on a book from the perspective of the delicious Mark Darcy, who loved our Bridget, just the way she was.

  1. I definitely agree with the first one! I would love to read about any character from Harry Potter, including those kids. I also think reading about Lupin, Sirius, etc. would be really interesting.

  2. Carol

The entire world wants the Marauders! Chaol is the love of my life. I just adore him and Celaena and I would love to read more about him! Heir of Fire has a lot more of his POV so you have that to look forward to! Fantastic list!

  3. I can imagine the fun and mischief if there was ever a book written from Sirius’, James’, Remus’ and Lily’s perspective! I would love to read that, whether it’s an adult or children’s book: I’ll take it anyway.

Chaol and Nehemia: you’re so right. I haven’t read Heir of Fire yet but I really want to do so soon. You’re definitely not the only one that was intrigued and curious about Nehemia: there just seems to be so much to her.

    Great list!

  4. Yes, yes, yes to so many of these! Definitely number one. And Kevin and Rosie. Kevin’s story would be really, really interesting. I agree with what you said that it might take a little away from the original text, but man, would it be fascinating.

      1. So true. That’d be one of those books that you read in the middle of the day with the lights on and lots of things that make you happy around you. It’d be super dark but I’ve always been fascinated with the mind and why people like that do those things.

  5. I drew a blank on this topic but i love seeing what you came up with. And omg yes to Nehemia! Chaol is a wonderful choice too. And how great would it be to see an HP spinoff! I still need to read Tease and Boys Like You.

  6. I’ve never really been a huge Bridget fan but I do love Mark Darcy. I read half of the third book but it wasn’t the same without him. It would be great to see Bridget from his point of view.

  7. Oh man, so many of these I haven’t read! I WOULD love to know what’s going on in Rosie’s mind! That girl is so full of life and the perfect foil for Don – maybe we’ll get her POV in the newest book? And Alba – I hadn’t thought of that, but I’d love to get more of her story too (though if she’s older and seeing her mom without her dad… guh. Would kill me!)

  8. Love your list, a book from Mark Darcy’s perspective would have been great. It would be so interesting to see how someone else views Bridget rather just reading everything from her slightly neurotic perspective (I am so with you in all out denial of the third book, I refuse to acknowledge it).

Love your suggestion for TIme Traveller’s Wife, I so can’t remember the full details of that book, but learning about what happens for a second gen time traveller would have been interesting.

I just love your list essentially, the HP suggestion is great, as is Rosie from The Rosie Project. I’ve got the second book in my TBR pile and I don’t know if it’s gonna be as good as the first.

  9. I’d love a book about the Harry Potter ‘elders’, I think it would be really fun to read about their teenage years. Especially Sirius.
And Mark ❤ who doesn't love that expression, even thinking about it gives me feels! I bought THAT book but couldn't read it, like you I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist.
Great list, I'd read so many of these.

  10. I love the idea of the other Harry Potter characters getting their own book. And yes to Alice from Twilight. I particularly want to know her and Jasper’s story in detail 🙂

Ohh, good list! I have the Marauders as well – they seem to be a popular pick this week – but you are so right about Alba from Time Traveler’s Wife. I read it a while ago and I think it’d be really interesting to read about her life.
And Alice! She was so cute.
