Top Ten Books On My Autumn “To Be Read” Pile
OK, quick story time – I made a small(ish) book purchase at the start of the month, then I read Throne of Glass last week (you can see my 5* review here), and instantly went on-line to purchase the other three books that are available in the series. Obviously, while browsing I added a few more books to my cart… Basically, there was no book buying ban in sight this month, and I was one very happy Book Geek when my purchases arrived! So, what’s the point to this story, I hear you ask? Simple – my Autumn TBR has to be books I already own. I need to get some lots of these read, and with the run-up to Christmas approaching, I need to watch the spending too. This week, I bring you, the top ten books on my Autumn TBR pile that are staring at me from across the room:
1. Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire and The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas: Of course these books had to make it on here! And with any luck I’ll have them read very soon. Maas may just become one of my favourite authors ever if she keeps it up. The first book, Throne of Glass, was just fabulous. Hype included.
2. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: I wanted this book for ages, if only to stare at that delicious cover, and now that I own it… Well, it’s been staring at me for a few months now, I think. Definitely need to get this one read.
3. The King’s Curse by Philippa Gregory: I’ve been looking forward to this release for almost a year, and have become obsessed with this period in history through my love of this book series, its complementary BBC TV show, and The Tudors TV show. I managed to get my hands on a hardcopy for a great price from The Book People, but now I’m debating a series reread, which will probably have to wait until closer to Christmas. We’ll also not talk about the horrible cover that doesn’t match my fabulous TV show tie-in editions…
4. The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare: I picked up this series as soon as I’d finished the final book in The Mortal Instruments. I started it, but I got side-tracked, and I’m really looking forward to picking it up again and marathoning it, especially as it seems to be everyone’s favourite Clare novels.
5. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell: I have yet to pick up a book by this author, and I was supposed to get around to E&P this month, to review it as part of Banned Books Week, but I don’t know if I’m going to make it by my self-imposed deadline. Either way, this is one I have to pick up soon (and then get my hands on Rowell’s back catalogue if I love it!). I still don’t think I’m going to like Fangirl, but we’ll see.
6. Crash Into You by Katie McGarry: I read (and loved!) Pushing the Limits and Dare You To, and I’ve had Crash Into You on my Kindle App for a little while now. The next time I need a contemporary romance hit, I know exactly what I’m picking up!
7. We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Jay Fowler: I fell for the title of this book before I even knew anything about it, and I picked the eBook up really cheap. I’m looking forward to reading a Man Booker Prize shortlister, and I’ve heard great things about it.
8. Under The Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi: This is another series I picked up a little while ago based on the raving recommendations of anyone who’s ever read it, and which I’ve yet to pick up. But it’s another one I’m really looking forward to.
9. Delirium series by Lauren Oliver: I’m cheating just a little with this one, as I’ve already picked up book 1 and I’m around halfway through it. I’m enjoying it so far, and I’d love to get this series read by the end of the year, so I can finally watch the TV show pilot if nothing else!
10. Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty: I picked this one up when I was grocery shopping a few months ago (as you do!). I’m always drawn to those dark, matt, soft-touch covers! I’ve since heard great things about this book, from both male and female readers, so I’m looking forward to picking it up.

I haven’t read any of these books, but I voted for Eleanor and Park because I want to know what you think of it. I have only read Attachments by Rainbow Rowell – I enjoyed it, but I haven’t tried her YA yet.

I hope you like the rest of the Throne of Glass series when you pick them up – it just gets better and better, especially the last book. I’ve still got to catch up with some of the other Cousins’ War books before I start The King’s Curse. And I totally agree with you about the cover, it’s definitely not one of the best. I LOVED The Infernal Devices, and I though they were better than TMI. Under the Never Sky is worth the read (although I need to start the last one) and the first Delirium book is good. It does go a little downhill though in my opinion.

Ahhhh!!! I’m so excited to get to them! But I’m putting them off a little too because I don’t want them to end and the wait to start! Is it any wonder historical fiction gets a bad rep sometimes when they give us covers like that?! If I didn’t know the series I wouldn’t pick that book up! I’ve heard that a lot about Delirium, but I bought them on a deal and the premise sounds really interesting. So far, I’m enjoying Oliver’s writing style, but I’ll brace myself for book three!

The Tudor period is interesting – I spent a lot of time with the key players at university. Have you read Wolf Hall? Once I heard there was a TV adaptation in the works, I couldn’t continue reading it. I have Apple Tree Yard on my shelf to read as well. It was a present too, so I better get on it!

I loved Tudors, and then went back further when I got hooked on The White Queen, so far I’m pretty up-to-speed with the stories of Henry the 8th, his mother and his grandmother, now I need to get on the ball with what all happened after him. I haven’t heard of Wolf Hall, is it good? I have heard of a few other series that sound interesting – The Other Boleyn Girl, The Boleyn Inheritance etc. and they sound good. I may be doing a buddy read for Apple Tree Yard soon, and Life After Life, if you want to join us feel free!

After you read the first installment of Delirium…watch the pilot episode and tell me that they didn’t cram the entire book into one episode LOL (but thank you…it means I have “read” the first book). You should read the first chapter of Chaos Walking for fun and then tell me you didn’t get sucked in (heh…TBRs are malleable I tell you!)

I’ve heard that! I’m looking forward to watching the pilot – was it good? I have a few I want to read first before I “go there” with Chaos Walking – I know the writing style is quite different, so I’m hoping it works for me. R x

The pilot had shoddy writing and even worse acting. It was pretty all over the place.. I mean how can you put an entire book into one episode (at least from what I know of the first book).

I haven’t read any of these – but we do have quite a lot in common when it comes to books we WANT to read! I need to read the first book, Throne of Glass, by Maas, and Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series. I’m not sure I want to read Clare’s Mortal Instruments OR Infernal Devices, but I do need to read a Rainbow Rowell book asap! I have both Fangirl and Eleanor and Park, but haven’t read either yet >.<
And then I need to read both the Under the Never Sky series and the Delirium series as well! Series just aren't my forte, ha ha! But great list, I hope you get to read all of them! xx

HAHA – How many books do we WANT to read?! The reader’s struggle is eternal!
Throne of Glass was so good. SO GOOD. And I’m not sure what to expect from Shatter Me, some have said the first book isn’t great but the series overall is, and some have said while it isn’t great the writing is beautiful. And either way that cover HAD to go on my shelf. Hmm. Most people who’ve read both say they prefer TID to TMI’s. I’ve only read TMIs so far, and it is a big guilty pleasure of mine. I can see the negative points some have about it, but I love that world, I love the paranormal in it, the friendship group, relationships, the large number of characters. I would recommend it. I think I’ll tackle E&P soon, Rowell has to happen, there can’t be THAT much hype for no reason, right?
I love a good series! I love being immersed in a world for longer than one book. Granted, I hate when a book becomes a series when it really doesn’t need to be, everything is a series these days! Thanks for commenting, Rosie! R x

Ooh I’m interested to see what you think of We Are All Beside Ourselves when you read it. I didn’t love it (but didn’t hate it either). And of course – I need to read all the Sarah J. Maas books. I’ve only got through the 1st one and loved it too.
