I’m sure plenty of you have seen this floating around the inter-webby-waves by now and anyone who follows me knows I lurve to answer questions, so I’m pleased to say I’ve been nominated by A Kernel of Nonsense to take part in the Book Blogger Test!

1. What are your top three book pet hates?

Is a pet hate things I don’t like in book content? Or a Bookish OCD? I have quite a few Bookish OCDs, so I’ll run with those… OK, well first of all I really HATE it when people dog-ear pages in books or throw them about so that you get big creases in the cover, it ruins the book! Oddly though, I’m perfectly happy to crack spines. I crack all the spines *insert evil laugh here*.

I really don’t like lending books out. There’s maybe two people I trust with my babies. It just feels like a loss – if I get it back at all it will have dog-ears, creased covers and spaghetti sauce on page 62 from dinner that night, I just know it!

Oh, and I hate when there is a cover-change midway through a series, and the already published books in that series aren’t given a cover-change to match. My recent example is kind of like this – I own books 1-5 of Phillipa Gregory’s The Cousins’ War series (which I highly recommend if you like historical fiction – go check these out!). I own the TV show tie-in editions of these because they’re nicer, the historical fiction covers don’t usually do it for me anyways, but I digress. So, when I heard the 6th and final book was due to be released, I looked it up on Goodreads, and looked for the TV tie-in cover… it doesn’t look as though there’s going to be one. So I’m stuck with a mis-matched series. Great.

2. Describe your perfect reading spot.

In my wildest imagination I could probably dream up some idyllic little beach, beautifully peaceful park or quiet getaway retreat. But really my perfect reading spot is my bed. At least until such times when I become mega rich and can afford to build my own bespoke little nook or library somewhere…

3. Tell us three book confessions.

1. I used to be a terrible book-hoarder. I had a really hard time letting go of books once I owned them. Then I hit my late teens and suddenly decided I needed to clear out all of the children’s books I owned. Big mistake. Huge. I still regret doing that to this day. You’d think that would have made me a hoarder again, but no, if I don’t love it/collect it/want to reread it, it’s gotta go.

2. I sniff books. A lot. Hardbacks, paperbacks, textbooks, novels, notebooks, novellas, old books, new books, big books, itty bitty books. I’m not fussy. Sometimes I even hug them a little.

3. I acquire books at a pace far quicker than I can read. Actually, I probably acquire books at such a rate that no human could possibly keep up. Admittedly, this became worse when I started blogging but even before then I was on the deal-finding bandwagon and I wasn’t coming off. Before blogging I would have bought collections and x number for x amount offers without thinking too much about the books I was buying. Now, I know that there are a lot of mediocre reads out there so I try to buy much more wisely. Try. I try.

4. When was the last time you cried during a book?

Ohhh. Toughy. I rarely full on blub the way I would do at a movie but I do tear up. My most recent tear-jerker was The Fault in Our Stars, which I’m guessing everyone is sick of hearing about now, so I’ll include a few others: The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult, Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK.

5. How many books are on your bedside table?

Hahaha. Oh dear. Quite a few. I don’t have anywhere near adequate bookshelf space right now, so I stack books I want to read near me. I have… *goes to count* 7 books beside me right now. Two I just received in the post, one I’ve just finished writing a review for, two I picked up and put down again mid-read because City of Heavenly Fire came out and it took priority, one I’m currently reading and the last one is a classic I picked up for 99p when doing my food shop ages ago and I still haven’t picked it up either. I seem to think if it’s near me I’ll read it. Alas, that never happens.

6. What is your favourite snack to eat while you’re reading?

I try not to eat when I read because I’d end up the size of a semi-detached house. If I’m peckish though and trying to be good it might be grapes or strawberries, if I’m not being good it’s Cheddars, Fruit Pastilles or some form of chocolate. And coffee. Always coffee.

7. Name three books you would recommend to everyone.

This changes depending on what I’ve read recently. Well, the first one never changes. This question is always so hard.

1. The Harry Potter series. Obviously.
2. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover.
3. We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

8. Show us a picture of your favourite shelf on your bookcase.

I can’t do this one right now, as I don’t actually have a bookcase… I have “a wall of books” while I’m waiting for my new bookcase to be built. And that might actually be a while yet. Can I come back to this one??

9. Write how much books mean to you in three words.

Is “can’t live without” too easy?? “Best Escapism Ever”, “My Favourite People”, “Pretty Intellectual Stimulation”. See? I can never do this. This is why I hate Twitter, I can NEVER say everything I need to in 140 characters.

10. What is your biggest reading secret?

I’ve read 50 Shades of Grey (the whole series) and I liked it *sung to the tune of I Kissed A Girl*. That’s not really a secret anymore. I talk about it any chance I get. I’m liberated, yo.
