Top Ten Books With Great Friendships
1. Sephy and Callum from the Noughts and Crosses series: This series explores friendships and relationships in a society that is divided and plagued with prejudice and discrimination, it makes for a thought-provoking and emotional read (you can read my review of the series here).
2. Clary and Simon from The Mortal Instruments: This is one of the predominant friendships from the series, in my mind, but it could cover all of the friendship groups in this series.
3. Bella and Alice from Twilight: Yes, I’m mentioning the dreaded series that is amazingly popular with the population in general, and apparently amazingly unpopular in the book-blogging community! It has been quite a while since I’ve read these, but Bella and Alice’s friendship stands out (also I completely prefer book-Bella to movie-Bella, because from what I can tell book-Bella actually, you know, smiles).
4. Becky and Jessica from the Shopaholic series: I LOVED these books (the movie was such a let-down) and watching the relationship develop between two such different characters (who happen to be long-lost sisters) was highly entertaining and at times very funny.
5. Anne and Diana from Anne of Green Gables: I am well overdue a reread of this book (I didn’t realise it was a series?!). I read it when I was a lot younger and have put it in my Classics Club to-read list, but I remember really enjoying this book and the friendship between these characters.
6. George and Lennie from Of Mice and Men: I studied this book for an English exam a few years ago, and even though we analysed this short story to within an inch of its life, I still really enjoyed it, and found the friendship between two grown men to be very interesting and endearing. Definitely worth a read.
7. Shazzer, Jude and Tom from Bridget Jones’ Diary: I actually love this movie adaptation, and I love the friendships in this story. Amazingly well written and hilarious, I’m still not sure how I feel about the most recent addition to this series, at the minute I’m just refusing to read it!
8. Brie, Charlie, Walker and Daisy from Pretty Things: I LOVED this book, it is so good and explores many issues such as sexuality and discovering who you really are and who you want to be. All of the characters develop through the story and are likable in their own way. I remember this as being a great read!
9. Mia and Lily from The Princess Diaries: Another movie adaptation I completely loved, I’m pretty sure I had a minor Princess Diaries fascination growing up, and I loved Mia and Lily’s friendship in this series (I guess you could throw Michael in there too).
Do I really need an introduction, or explanation for number 10? It’s the series that can do no wrong, and is strongly based on friendships; the good, the bad and the ugly, it is of course…
10. Harry, Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter.

I was going to include Shopaholic on my list too (with Becky and Suze) but ran out of space! Pretty Things is one of my favourite Sarra Manning books. I think I need to re-read it this summer.

I don’t think I’ve read very much else by her, but I really enjoyed this read. Was one of the first books I read in my teens that tackled things with a “real” voice, edging on risque!! Thanks for commenting!

No! I read the first one when I was quite young and plan to reread this year to see how my views change as an adult (and to see how much of it comes back to me!), but I didn’t know there was a series. What isn’t a series anymore?! Looking forward to the reread. R x

You know, I don’t think I’ve read any of the Anne books since I’ve had children. I should re-read to see how that major life change affects my views on the books. BTW, my mini-review of The Blue Castle will post on Thursday – you get a well deserved shout-out. 🙂

I didn’t want to give too much of the stories away in the comments, but had to include George and Lennie, not only was the dynamic of their friendship so interesting, but as a female I enjoy reading male perspectives. Aw that would be awesome, as the Princess Diaries readers who were the same age as Mia would all be grown up now. Makes me even more fuming that I don’t have all of the books anymore. I sense a flashback series splurge coming on…. 🙂

I absolutely love the friendship in the Harry Potter series! The movies are amazing and so are the books. I may have to reread the books soon actually. Great picks!

I doubt I will ever love a book/series as much as I love HP. And nearly everyone had HP on their list on Tuesday, which is making me want to reread it so much! I really enjoyed the movies, they were great adaptations, but can’t beat those books. Thanks for commenting! 🙂

I don’t understand the blogging communities hate for Twilight either. I can understand hating the movies (I hate the movies) but I really loved the books. Alice & Bella had a great friendship =)

I wasn’t a fan of the movies except for the last one – Bella was better as a vampire and that ending!!!! So good. But yea, I really don’t get the hate for Twilight the books, so at least I’m not alone! 🙂

I’m basically at that point where I’m like “Oh, can’t think of anything–HAVE NO FEAR, HP IS THE ULTIMATE PLACEHOLDER!” >> though that sounds worse than it actually is.

Great list! So happy to see Callum and Sephy mentioned, I adore that series and those characters. Harry, Ron and Hermione are brilliant and they topped my list 🙂 Actually the series in general did, so many brilliant friendships in that one.

I love that series and I loved their friendship!! HP had soo many friendships – the parents, the Order, the main three, Hagrid and Harry, Dumbledore and Harry, Remus, James, Sirius and HIM lol I think HP is literally mentioned in every one of my lists. I didn’t realise just how much of a fan I was until I started blogging.
